Just signed RCG ... I suggest this is a bit like his time at the Dogs where he kept buying "ok but not great" forwards and had not much strike power.
Did they need another forward? Their pack is stacked already...must be a cap space thing (using space etc) as I would have thought even a player like Hunt would be more suitable for them

Sadly The Great Des Hasslers Great coaching career has been Declining over the years
He once again underachieved this season with the Titans who finished at the bottom of the table

Its an experience signing 100%. RCG is past his best obviously but still has some fire unlike woods when we signed him. Has played in GF, Origin and Australia if I'm not mistaken? Contrary to some on here I wouldn't have called the GC forward pace stacked. Obviously Tino and Fafita are stars but the rest are either workmen or kids.
2025 will be the litmus test. I wouldn't be surprised if Ben Hunt pops up on the GC in the next 2 months. If that happens then will be a danger side to play next year.

I wonder if they brought in RCG to allow Tino to move to 13,he will also be good as a leader for their younger guys, not a lot of real vets in their pack with Lui and even Clark moving on.
More of a lifestyle, sea change kind of move with a good sign on deal. RCG obviously not interested in chasing a dream premiership win in his twilight years.

It’s a bit too soon to write Des and the Gold Coast off just yet. Give him a couple of years if not more to build something there I reckon.

Forcing Des to start looking elsewhere in late 2010/through 2011, was one of the great ‘shooting ourselves in the foot’ moments in the club’s history.

With Des at the helm, there would have been greater certainty of a winning GF result in 2013. Tooves on the other hand (in that semi loss to Easts), presided over a tactically stupid approach, losing 4-0. Never taking the opportunity to kick easy penalty conversions, offered up by the Roosters. Win that game and have a week off - Manly probably wins the 2013 Grand Final.

As for 2012 and 2014, Des took the less capable (on paper) Canterbury teams to grand finals. Imagine what he could have done with the Sea Eagles’ teams in those years.

Not to mention the poisonous off-field atmosphere in the 2008/09 off season. The upshot of that season launch at Manly Wharf, ultimately cost the team the opportunity to go back to back in those years.
