I am on record as saying I didn't think we could win with only 2 props .... I was wrong.

It seems a very deliberate and successful tactic by Baz was to utilise Jorge and Uate to take the hit ups and save the likes of Jake/Sironen/Winterstein for defence.

A common set was 1) Kick return 2) Jorge 3) Uate 4) Kelly/Walker 5) forward 6) kick

Worked well and all players did their job and also explains why hit up figures for our 2nd row are down and how we were able to hold them defensively.

Special mention to Lawrence, Myles, Api, and Jake for efforts above and beyond.

Ps. ( can we now lose the stupidity of thinking this team is not fit)

Yes. I also said last night that I think swapping Buhrer for Uate is proving to be an OK move. Sure we all loved Buhrer but Uate has been good and having another winger that runs hard and has speed has meant that Williame style feeling of impending doom isn't there any more.

I have been saying for a while that we need more from our back 3 and they delivered last night. Yes there were a few too many errors with the ball but the set of 6 started on the front foot most of the night. Losing 2 props to suspension and having another injured has helped the team learn to cope in adversity and hopefully that will set up a solid season for Manly.

And it shows that quality go forward is what counts.
BJ has led the way in this department this year and last night had some mates.
NSW origin is littered with the carcasses of good halfbacks who were left stranded by forward packs who were outgunned.
Thurston went nowhere playing behind his bitch- slapped pack whilst DCE thrived behind our lesser rated champions.
The important thing is to keep it going.

We certainly need to utilise our back 3 strength. Uate and Jorge are great ball carriers early in the set, they must deliver.

This is where we lacked with Snake, for all his great attributes he rarely brought the ball back with gusto, Tommy is getting valuable metres for us.

I thought that the fact that we were flat last week may've been due to the massive amount of defence we had to do the week before more so than general fitness.

Both Jorge and Uate are built like a brick shytehouse and their previous lack of involvement used to irritate me.

Their strength was evident when the defenders were dragged along with each of their hit ups. Really gave our forwards a great lift 🙂

Hope they keep it up :finger:

They will, the pattern of play with Uate/Jorge was too consistent and practiced to be anything other than a deliberate tactic to counter our lack of props, and to save our forwards for defence.

I think maybe Souths figured out that our outside backs were doing more of the general metre eating and so started targeting our centres as much as possible.

It's an interesting tactic but it can be exploited if the opposition are allowed to shift the ball quickly.

I still got that feeling as soon as I saw Brown running onto the field last night.
