Bones Knows
Thought I'd try and pick what has been my ONE favourite Manly win against each of the other NRL teams. Obviously some people have been following for longer so there will be some fairly old games nominated I would assume.
Tried to keep to just one game per team.

Storm - Easiest one to pick. 2008 Grand Final 40-0
Rabbits - 2007 first ever Home Semi @ Brookie
Roosters - 1997 (I think) we were down 18-0 and came back to win with Terry Hill on fire.
Knights - 97 semi final
Broncos - 2012 with wolfie scoring in the last seconds to snatch a win.
Titans - 2008 on the gold coast. I love bever!
Cowboys - 2011 finals series
Dragons -1996 Grand Final
Raiders - 1987 Grand Final
Panthers - 05 come back inspired by Ben Kennedy at Brookie.
Sharks - 2011 last minute try to Oldfield. The grand finals were while I was a little kid so dont really remember those.
Bulldogs - 1983 ....36-2 at Brookie with phil Blake doing a magical chip n chase try.
Tigers- Stewies Hat trick first game back after being suspended by that prick Gallop.
Eels - 64-12 at parramatta in 1988
Warriors - 2011 Grand Final

RE: Favorite win against all other teams

Dragons -1994 61 - 0 We just ripped them apart at will and the crowd was going crazy.

Sharks - 2008 at Shark Park we played one of the best first halves of footy and we beat them 34-6.

RE: Favorite win against all other teams

What a great memory you have Bones. I'm battling to remember my own name.

RE: Favorite win against all other teams

Let me just add the Cowboys defeat in the 2008 Finals series.
And from 1978: The come-from-behind defeat of Parramatta in the semi, and the bone crunching defeat of Wests in the final.
The grand final replay was also a fav, even if not as 'difficult'.

Agree KE. Great thread bones.
Also agree with TWO DOGS. You've done well to remember all those. Better than me.

I'm just gonna go with every game we won, to cover all bases. :s

RE: Favorite win against all other teams

Great topic.

I started following our boys in 2004 so each of my selections is from then onwards. I’m a fan of great attacking football so most of my selections will be big wins where we have blitzed our opponents.

Brisbane – (2011) Our first encounter in Brisbane where we won 34-10. Daly Cherry-Evans scored double the amount of tries Brisbane did that night within a 5 minute period. One off a fabulous try assist from Snake. The other where he just poked through the line with slick evasiveness and raced 40 metres to score.

Canberra – (2011) Matches against Canberra haven’t really been memorable to me so this one was a little tough to pick. I’ll go for our Brookvale encounter in 2011 where on a slightly miserable night Stewart scored a hattrick and we kept them scoreless for the first time.

Canterbury – (2011) Loved every minute of our 38-6 defeat of Canterbury on their home turf. My everlasting memory from that match is George Rose bouncing Barba into the stands to score a great prop forwards try.

Cronulla – (2008) We had a hoodoo going on at Toyota Park before this match. We brushed that aside to trounce the Sharks 34-6 on a memorable Saturday night. We recorded massive wins over each of the other teams that finished in the top 4 that season (40-0 over Melbourne, 34-6 over Cronulla and 42-0 over Sydney).

Gold Coast – (2009) In the final round of the regular season we appeared to be going into the finals with excellent form as we trounced the Titans 38-4.

Melbourne – (2008) The grand final was one of our greatest wins ever. Simply put it was a flawless victory beyond our wildest dreams.

Newcastle – (2004) We had suffered the biggest ever loss in our history to Penrith the week before so we needed to make a strong showing against the Knights in the following match. We did just that with an 8 tries to 2 victory on a pleasant Sunday afternoon.

New Zealand – (2008) We were winless heading into this match after two close losses in the first two rounds. The Warriors had a miserable night at Brookvale as we smashed them 52-6.

North Queensland – (2007) We had some really disappointing finals losses in 2005 & 2006. That disappointment was put to rest as we beat Souths 30-6 in week 1 before winning the grand final qualifier against North Queensland 28-6. These two big wins gave me high hopes for the grand final but it wasn’t to be.

Parramatta – (2008) In round 6 we had a victory against Parramatta that is as gutsy as they come. Mark Bryant showed huge courage by taking his place in the defensive line (off our own tryline) during the dying stages of the game when the game was in the balance despite hobbling on 1 leg. We beat Parramatta on their home turf 20-16. We lost the penalty count 7-1.

Penrith – (2005) The regular season match that bones mentioned. I was sitting in the general admission seating area around the halfway line and thought we were going to lose big like we had the previous year. We were superb as we chased down a 20 point deficit to steal the win. I think we also chased down Penrith for a victory in the following season after trailing by 18 points.

St George – (2010) I didn’t have much luxury in choosing a victory against St George as we haven’t had many. In 2004 we had a gutsy victory against St George when we really needed a win. We looked good in the rematch later on in the year before blowing a 24 point lead to lose. My pick though is our Brookvale encounter in 2010 when we beat them 24-6 in a high quality contest. They won the Minor Premiership and Premiership that year and their only bigger loss that year was against the Raiders later in the season. This win just pipped the victory we had over them during the finals series in 2008.

South Sydney – (2007) The 2007 semi that bones mentioned. It was our first finals victory since 1997 and we made it special by winning big against the ‘pride of the league’.

Sydney City – (2007) 56-0 against the Roosters in 2007. A sensational victory which was a sign of big things to come.

Wests – (2009) In round 5 Snake made an emotional return from his pathetic 4 week suspension. He scored a hattrick as we recorded a 4 tries to 1 victory. This victory was much needed after we opened the 2009 season with 4 straight losses. It was hard to pick between this match and the match where Brett scored just on fulltime after tapping a chip kick out of Benji Marshall’s grasp before regathering with one hand to score the match winning try.

As an aside one match that I would like to watch is our 61-0 defeat of St George during the 90's. I can imagine that that afternoon would have been absolute bliss.

RE: Favorite win against all other teams

I am with Bones on his 1st 2 choices. Plus the win against Great Britain. Awesome night.

RE: Favorite win against all other teams

Started supporting Manly in 1992, off the top of my head this is my list

Storm- 40-0 nuff said

Rabbits - A game back in 96 where Beaver scored 4 tries, we won by 40 odd

Roosters - 56-0 at Brookie

Knights - 95 semis, late win with Cliffy sliding in under the sticks

Titans - 2008, score was something like 34-16, long range tries with Beaver making a break from our 10m then passing to a flying Snake, Wolfman howling at the moon after an 80m solo run and Snake finishing the night off with a classic off an Orford flick pass

Broncos - Last year when we scored on the bell to win, honorable mention to the rabble side we sent up there around 2004 that beat them, including the Dorn miracle ball

Dragons - Think it was 2003, Ferris was playing halfback, and in the dying stages Beaver latches onto a high kick to score under the sticks and snatch it

Raiders - 1995, both sides undefeated as we play them at Brookie, Hoppa scores 3 tries and we roll them 18-0

Sharks - 2008 Shark Park, both teams running at the top of the ladder, I go to my mates to watch it as he is a Sharks man, and we put on a near flawless 1st 40 and blow them away and he doesn't talk for 80mins. Everytime Talapapa ran the ball back he got smashed

Cowboys - 2008 Prelim, Monaghan and Watmough have blinders and we are on our way to the GF, Bani also scored a ripper after being called in for Hicks

Eels - 2008 at Parra, Willo knocked out, Menzies hammy gone, Bani stretchered off, Bryant hobbled and Parra hit the front, we look done but L'Estrange scores a late one and we take 1 of the gutsiest wins in our history home

Tigers - There are so many against them !! The spiteful Gosford game in 09, Brett stealing the game in 06, Smashing them in 08, but nothing will ever come close to 2009 at Brookie and Snakes return, 1 of my proudest ever days watching Manly, damn I wish I was there. That 2nd try where Snake goes around a centre and burns them for 20m is 1 of my favourite ever tries, along with Rabs screaming "Some call him the Prince of Brookvale, I don't, I call him Mr Magic"

Panthers - Struggling for this one, I don't think i got to see that comeback game live. Probably 2008 again when we needed to flog them to have a chance at the minor premiership, and we struggle at Penrith park, but belted them 38-4 or something like that

Warriors - 2011 GF obviously, but also want to mention 2008 Round 3, we hadn't won a game, and smoked them 52-6 at Brookie and scored some magic tries including a Snake hattrick

Bulldogs - 1996, they are up near the top of the table with us, Ridgey comes back after sitting out and has a blinder as we beat them 26-0

Have probably missed a few there but those pop into my mind, the details of some a little hazy but still there

Special mention to the 61-0 v Saints and a 66-8 win over Wests in 1994. Also a game v Canberra in 2008 where Cuthbo gets sent off, and we still win 31-18, Matai scoring an amazing try with 2 huge left foot steps

A lot of 2008 in there for me, I honestly think my footy passion peaked that year and I will never see another year like it, from start to finish it was an absolute ripper

RE: Favorite win against all other teams

Manly 57 Newtown 6 at Henson Park in 1976.

The second Manly game I attended, as a kid living down the road from Henson Park I would wait till that once a year event when Manly came to Henson Park. 13 tries in 1976. I remember waiting outside the sheds to get Bob Fulton's autograph, he and Phil Lowe signed my football.
Happy days.

RE: Favorite win against all other teams

Norths 1991 North Sydney oval Fri night massive build up both teams bound for semis 22000 at bear park. Manly bashed them like last Fri nights game and won 15-0

RE: Favorite win against all other teams

There was a mid 90s game, 96 I guess, where we played Norths in retro jumpers, that one stuck in the memory
