MANLY rookie Manase Fainu was selected in first grade last week despite the club knowing he was due to face court on charges of filming a sex act and then posting it on social media.

The Daily Telegraph broke the story on Friday night, stating that Fainu originally faced court in May and requested that the matter be dealt with under section 32 of the mental health act.

A section 32 application is open to “a defendant who has a developmental disability, a mental illness or a mental condition for which treatment is available in a mental health facility, but who is not a mentally ill person”.

He didn’t enter a plea and was granted bail but is due to face Fairfield Local Court on August 7.

It is alleged that Fainu engaged in consensual sex with the woman involved but she was unaware of being filmed. The player allegedly deleted the post and was charged by police.

The police offence states Fainu “intentionally recorded intimate images without consent”.

The NRL integrity unit has been made aware of the incident, says The Daily Telegraph.

“The integrity unity is aware of the matter and will let the legal process take its course before determining what action if any is required,” an NRL spokesman said.

Fainu made his NRL debut at hooker against Penrith last weekend as Manly recorded a win.

He had previously been denied an earlier debut by the NRL despite an injury to Api Koroisau because he’s not in Manly’s top list of contracted players, however the release of Jackson Hastings caused the sport’s governing body to change their minds.

If found guilty, the 19-year-old faces having his Manly contract — which ends after next season — terminated after having been promoted from the Sea Eagles’ development squad.

Fainu is still expected to be named in the Sea Eagles side for next Saturday’s match against Melbourne Storm at Brookvale Oval.

Deadset could anything else go wrong this season.

Manase has been charged with intentionally filming a sex act.

Club knew of the charge before last week’s game and decided to play him anyway.

Who hasn't filmed a sex act? I have a dead set Star Wars Trilogy of home porn in my cupboard.

What's the big deal?

P.S. Haven't read the article.

Allegedly shared it on social media via Snapchat. There will be plenty of pressure on the club given the issue to hand down a harsh penalty, no matter his talent.

The other party wasn't aware of the filming and then he posted it online all this allegedly. If true he is finished at our club and should do time.

I agree unfortunately mate. The club will have little choice but to tear up his contract.

How bloody disappointing, just another blow in a horrible year.

Welcome back Lewis Brown/Matthew Wright to the number 9.

THE Manly Sea Eagles promoted teenage star Manase Fainu to first grade knowing he was charged with intentionally filming a sexual act and then posting it on social media.

The Saturday Telegraph has been told it will be alleged a woman was made aware of the post on Snapchat and immediately contacted police.

Fainu allegedly deleted the post and was charged by police. The NRL integrity unit has been made aware of the incident.

It is alleged Fainu engaged in consensual sex with the woman, who was unaware of being filmed. She and Fainu are known to each other.

The police offence states Fainu “intentionally recorded intimate image without consent.”

He asked the court in May that the matter be dealt with under section 32 of the mental health act. He did not enter a plea and was granted bail.
