Hi all,

Excuse the downtime we are having some issues with the database chewing RAM that I am trying to work through at the moment. I am just about to do a database replacement to a different database server system, if that doesnt cool things down I will spin up a new virtual server and migrate our database there to have a dedicated database server

Dan

that was frustrating and I had to roll back so I am going to have to do it again, may explore an entire update of the server anyway into new distro just need to find the optimal time

Yay, distro, way to go Dan

Sounds like an OOSP issue @Dan (an"overload of **** posts" for those who aren't IT experts).
haha yes and no.

there is a memory leak somewhere for one and I need to fix the configuration to restart pools from mysql every now and then, since we run with innodb the memory IO can be high. Its fine but we keep getting close to filling the memory. I wanted to switch over to Percona as a database server for its higher performance but ran into some issues.

In the end the issue is we have a lot of posts and a lot of concurrent users, hosting both the database and the webserver on the same machine is ok but we are starting to hit capacity sometimes, I would ideally like to setup a cluster but its a little expensive so moving the webserver to a smaller instance given the website itself doesnt use a lot of memory or CPU and then keeping the database here will help a lot

I have no doubt your expertise (and sweat) is greatly appreciated by every user of this magnificent site. Long may you reign!

See more dirty talk, buggered if I know what was just said but gee it sounded sexy!!

I blame Zorba, and after that I blame Bozo, then Penn, then Barrett, then Myles, then Brown, now Greenturd and all the others.

Never you @Dan. That's not the Silvertails way.

Zorba was quoted again today on the Silvertails downtime issues saying "Dan's just a dummie that doesn't know IT, and as for the other moderators their just cowards who sit at home eating sausage rolls who wouldnt know their mysql from their innodb" Its all Greek to me as well @Dan, but thanks for making it all happen so smoothly in the back end
