A tale of Tommy turbo. The Sea Eagles are clearly a different team with, and without, Dally M Winner Tom Trbojevic.

Without the superstar fullback playing, winger Jason Saab scored just one try in nine games, but 25 tries in the 18 games he played with his star man at fullback. The Trbojevic/Garrick combo also had the best try/try assist combination in the league with 13.


Garrick also scored 272 of his 334 points last season with Turbo in the team, scoring at 15.1 points per game, compared to the Bulldogs who scored just 14.2 points per game as a team in 2021.


The stats are mind-boggling when Trbojevic plays, but in the finals it seemed teams were able to blunt the Sea Eagles’ biggest weapon. Manly should be thereabouts again in 2022, but a lot hinges on Trbojevic’s fitness.

If The Shoe is freed from his defensive role and given a little more space to attack then he will create plenty of opportunities even when Turbo is not playing.
Guaca, also, will be a bigger handful this season now that he is confident of his ability to shine in the top grade.
And, if Al shows as much spark with his fists as he has been doing with his mouth then we will have the tough-man forward we need to monster other packs.

I have a inkling that the slime might drop out of the 8 next year and the Dalai is sacked. I just think the team is not playing as a team and way to many egos among the playing group or is it just my wishful thinking

100% agreed .We need to find the form we showed in our first meeting against the Eels . Moving forward ,Schuster and Evans should start in the halves next season for us supporters to watch if there is a difference either going forward or backwards from 2021 .If it is not working then make some changes .

At least! Anything less will be a failure. Maybe he should write to the NRL and propose a Top 6.
Actually I think I've already spotted one failure, and it looks like the author of this codswallop!

The ones that do not make the top four would have failed to reach their potential

With the help of the NRL and effectively changing the rules again in about round 22 going away from the 6 again love fest of most of the season back to something that looked much more 2019 than 2021. The speed was removed from the game and played right back into the storm and panthers hands.

The perspective you need to look at is this.

In 2019 Des Evolved an almost wooden spoon squad and took them to within 100min of a GF.

In 2020 we further evolved that side into a power focused team to expand on the 2019 evolution. PV then introduced Vball and we were toast.

Roll on 2021 and an even faster Vball is introduced and with Tommy back we become possibly the best attacking side in the comp UNTIL the powers that be decided to artificially slow the comp back down. The last few rounds and finals were getting back to 2019 with the slow wrestle creeping back in.

Fact is @BOZO we have evolved at least 3 times since tbaz left and each time the NRL tinkering has somewhat screwed us.

Had a pretty horrendous injury toll for a good part of last season [ 2020 ] as well but Des and the coaching staff were still damm slow and not very effective in adapting to the new format ., Some truly boring footy tactics in the main also and the side"s overall defence and defensive patterns was just not up to scratch . Turbo was very instrumental in helping or flicking the switch back on for some competitive footy when he returned this season but the eventual introduction of some good raw footy ability and much better open attack fortunately also changed that dynamic . Plus a lot more steel in defence . Evolved in some facets but less then ideal adaptability issues were more a problem for mine but hopefully past tense now .

Not every team can have a succesful season and this article isnt predicting where teams will land merely focusing on what they think the realistic aim should be.
