Depth

It was only a few seasons ago we were heavily criticised for our depth. If we got a couple of injuries in almost any position we were forced to bring in NSW Cup standard players and it would derail our season.

Credit to the club we have significantly improved in this area. It not only helps with injury cover but also competition for spots.

I’m very impressed especially with our middle forward depth and outside backs.

Guys like Navale, Patolo, James (looks fitter), Lodge, Sipley will likely all be in NSW Cup and could all do a job in first grade.

The glaring hole is in the backrow for mine. We lack a lot of quality outside of Haumole and there isn’t much else in seconds.

But still a huge improvement!

Agree and totally agree if Hamole goes down injured we are in massive trouble

James looks a different player from last year ... I thought he was a lazy slug ... but looks like he has knuckled down and looks invested ...

I don't get the Navale love ... handy, but not impressive for mine.

Patolo seems like a good work in progress.

Would like to see Sykes kick on ...

I thought sykes was strong in the allstars game. Any idea what his contract status is?

Over all Our Depth is Pretty Good
Back row is a pass without being Exceptional
Depth can also be Depleted through out the year by injury or suspension
Grand final Winning coaches make the most of what they got

The Good news is feathered friend
The Manly Hamole Hammer hardly gets injured
The Manly Hammer cause Injury and Pain to the opposition Players
Sing with me feathered friend @The Wheel
All together now !
If I had a hammer
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening
All over the NRL

Navale offers leg speed, a quick play the ball, and tireless workrate in defence. Not flashy, but a more mobile lock than Jake. Also has the right attitude for this position, a leader by action in the lower grades. Won't be commanding big $ for a while, if ever, yet can already hold his own with the big boys at such a young age.

I am still not sold on our depth outside of 1 - 5. If DCE goes down Arthur appears to be serviceable but not a long term option
Front row is pretty thin on as is second row and 9 has questions
If Taukeiaho, Waddell, Lodge, Patolo, Sipley, Chee Kam can't make your 17, I think this is indicative of pretty decent forward depth.

Whilst we don't have Harry Grant on the books, the combination of Croker, Tevaga, Simpkin, and GCKT looks to be a pretty serviceable group of hooking options.

Actually, for the first time in over decade, one cannot blame a lack of depth at Manly for not reaching our goals this season. We still need to get this whole group to become a ruthless defensive unit - this will be the only determining factor

Front Row: This is a Manly issue and problem. Hit ups are not NRL standard. 4 metres (Jake, Aloiai, Sipley and Paseka is AC injury).

We need more at least 10 metres for hit ups. Sick of this halfway pressure on kicks. It’s not hard. Coaches are not understands. Easy game.

We have speedy backline but the problem can’t tackle and catch the ball (Saab, Garrick and Koula).

Ben Trbojevic and Corey Waddel are a reserve graders. I prefer Jazz or Bullimore and Taukeiaho.

If I was going to be harsh I am not sure many of those players would make the top 17 of many other clubs.

That to me is the indication of depth - for most of the forwards mentioned we are their last chance as a club

For the hooker position it is the same again. A cast of 9's who would most likely not be playing at all if not with us

My point is merely that there is a group of tough and seasoned NRL forwards playing in our reserve grade team. This is not common.

Definitely agree that hooking position is still a relative weakness. But I still believe what we have is good enough, if the rest work to their potential.

The backrow has been a concern since Schuster went, hopefully Ben improves and can go up a gear or two from last season.

Depth in the halves is a worry, not convinced with Jake Arthur, good percentages player though don’t see him as a seven, Joey Walsh may be the one there, Matterson I don’t see as a first grader.

Depth in the three quarters very good and only going to get better as a few promising younger players get a chance in NSW cup.

Middles it’s a long hard slog of a season keeping them fresh and blooding others will be the challenge, TKO and Tent were good yesterday, James looked likely.

At least 10 metres per hitup......

You know how many props averaged 10m per hitup last season?

One

Attachments for reference.

Jake not listed as I filtered by props but he averaged 7m per run
