Max Delmege comes out in his own defence following and article by Rothturd this morning.

"I awoke this morning to an article on the back page of the telegraph inferring that my involvement with manly sea eagles was a determent to the club. Of course ...the article was shabbily written my Rothfield who as we all know is Penns brotherinlaw Peter Peters best mate, I came on board in 2002 when they were known as the ill fated northern eagles. Ian Thompson who was then the ceo approached me and informed me that if the club could not get an injection of one million dollars they would have to hand back their license to the nrl as they were trading insolvent. By the way that year they were second last on the ladder. Subsequently we reverted back to the manly sea eagles, and after many more capital injections we climbed our way back into contention and in 2007 into a grand final. We all happily remember the following year a premiership with a 40-nil scoreboard. The largest grand final win in the history of rugby league.During this time i was the major sponsor and for a period the owner My dream was and still is for the ownership of the club to revert back to where it belongs with the passionate, loyal members. Now I ask you how can that so called journalist write such misleading articles for news corp and get away with it. He is a journalist that will only write favourable views on an individual if it is his selfish best interests, and this has been borne about by a recent Sydney morning article exposing him for what he really is. This time I will be confronting him in a court of law, so all and sundry can be privy to the way this deviate so called man operates..PLEASE ALL WHO READ THIS SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS"

It will be interesting to see if the Sea Eagles come out and support Max's contribution ......

Well said Max

If he drafted that he needs to work on his grammar and syntax, which in the tradition of real estate shysters everywhere, is appalling. Attn Max: there is no 'p' in Ian Thomson's surname.

Back on topic: any chance that someone could post the original article? I cannot get through the Bellylaugh/HUN/Curious Male firewall.

Why would this be news??? Haven't read the article but Max got out around 2010 - 7 years ago.

He did save the club and was always willing to have a friendly chat. Hope he sues the crap out of Slothful

The article was in relation to ownership of Newcastle and Rothturd said that the NRL had a duty to save clubs from bad owners such as Edelson, Skafe, Tinkler etc and threw Max's name in as examples.

It is absurd for Rothfield to infer that Max was detrimental to the club. We wouldn't have a team if Max didn't step up. However nowadays we wouldn't have a team if the Penns hadn't stepped up. I'm happy to give both parties my thanks.

Given it was written first thing this morning straight to facebook by an 80yo man who just crawled out of bed with a 30yo wife in it .... I (unlike you and @globaleagle) will cut him some slack both in spelling and syntax.

from the daily telegraph

Max Delmege, a former real estate tycoon, poured in $15 million as an owner and sponsor of the Manly Sea Eagles … then went broke.
These days under the ownership of the highly respected Penn family, Delmege is no longer welcome in the dressing room or anywhere around the team.

(Seems harsh and only reinforces my 'narrow minded revenge fuelled agenda' comments from the other day.)

#alternativefacts - Rothfield's area of expertise 😡

Max single handedly resurrected the Sea Eagles when no one, not even the Penns thought to do so

Sick 'em Max

Z and his cronies futility in trying to rewrite the 70 year MWSE history, is ludicrous :finger:
There are tens of thousands of us who have clear memories and evidentiary articles of the actual historical facts :wait:

So Max spent $15m of his own money saving manly and went broke largely because of this

He should have a statue of himself at brookie oval as a permanent reminder of what he did for the club

Would the fact that he is no longer allowed in the dressing rooms and and the players have anything to do with his support of getting rid of Peters a few years ago?

As much as I did not always agree with the way Mr Delmege intervened in the business at times I have nothing but admiration for his efforts to save this club, without him we simply would no longer have a team. To say he was anything other than a fair financial savior is wrong of Rothfield in my opinion.

Probably didn't help but I think he went bust because he was overleveraged and had interests in commercial real estate that went to **** after the GFC.
