Ok it’s obvious that we officially have the worst backline in the competition
The smarter coaches know it and attack and kick to that weakness scoring try after try from incompetent defence. On top of that a number of wingers in other teams have scored more tries individually then our backline has collectively.
They r duds but really Des doesn’t have the ticker or the depth to replace them..... BUT...............
Even tho they r reserve graders WHAT IS OUR DEFENCE COACH PAID FOR ????? He has had weeks to get the backline defending like a team , moving together, communicating etc etc
Who tf is our defence coach???? No improvement week after week.
I can’t blame the players as they are playing to their ability BUT ffs teach these players who are paid 100s of thousands to play 1st grade to defend like 1st graders

You lose a lot of defensive guidance when you lose your fullback. You lose out even more when his replacement is gone for the season to injury and its covered by Funa, who then goes the bin for 10 mins.

Being rubbed out of the game when your 3rd choice fullback goes to the bin indicates the importance of fullback defence talk in a modern team.

Missed tackles and ineffective tackless last night were also very telling in our defence structure.
When the players that are suppose to be breaking the line have single digit runs and next to no metres, the attack is also weak.

Fullback is very vital in today's game and when your main fullback is injuried regularly your replacements aren't going to be as good. We used to run into the same problem when Stewart didn't play.

Defence is all about attitude, and our attitude has been off since the Turbo forward pass vs Eels.

We handle adversity as well as tissue paper handles water.

We are mentally soft, which is not something I thought I would ever say about a Des coached side.

Who is our DEFENCE COACH does anyone know ??? Whoever it is he should start looking for another club. Wether Tom is out or not theses guys don’t know how to defend in first grade
It must kill the forwards taking the hits , defending their asses off then the opposition swings it either side for a 2 man overlap ....all their hard work toughing it out in the middle for nothing

Head coaches also delegate Attack and Defence to coaches that specialise in these areas
eg Ryles @ Storm
Who is responsible for our non defensive backs?
Anyone?

This has been going on all season not just last week.....

Not so much a feature of the game against the Bunnies but have seemed to be letting a lot of or a higher then proportional number off loads happen in quite a few games this season . Can only be mainly be a lack of intensity in defensive intent and did not seem to be a particular problem last season . Considering also that our most serious injuries have been in the backs and not the forwards where most off loads are happening . Just seemed to be much more sting in general in the tackling department last season led by the likes of Thommo in particular . Not saying that big hits should be the order of the day but must be a problem with attitude in defence when the opposition in quite a few matches have found some relative ease with off loads and again our outside and edge defence continues to be about as brittle as Turbo "s hamstrings in recent times .

Noticed that our sliding defence is almost non existent, that was something Des enforced in his first term as Manly coach, why so different now?

I think it's because our defence is non-existent. No need to slide when you're not defending in the first place.

But yeah, our edges look particularly vulnerable. Doesn't matter if the opposition throws it wide late or early in the tackle, we have never seem to have an equal number of defenders to their attackers. Maybe we concentrate so hard on plugging up the middle we forget teams can work their way around it. Or maybe we assume that just because we won't throw a pass, other teams won't either.

I really think a lot of players are playing busted. Really courageous but not helping anyone. Manly teams don't give up 56 points to anyone...let alone a team that Parra will put 20 on this week.
