I've thought about Vatuvei this week because, once the grand final kicks off, my job is to mark him and, whenever I've been asked during the week about being ''matched up'' against The Beast, my initial reaction was to think: ''I hope he doesn't take me to school.''

I had wondered about the pressure to help support his family, given John's apparently diminishing employment options. Great article, and another indication that pappa John is a far more admirable and complex person than the media caricature of a dumb one-dimensional thug.
