To be honest it would have been a massive task for Arthur to come in with less than a week

Considering the run he had at parra if he was clunky at all can you imagine what it would have done to his confidence?

If the coach had faith in John’s there is no way Arthur would have been signed. I will be shocked if John’s starts again unless there are some significant injuries

Why isn't the Johns boy playing for Blacktown this weekend?

  • Don't have a lock at the club
  • Don't play a specialist 9

If our recruitment team reflected a part of the human anatomy, they would be the anus.

It is alarming how far we have fallen in our ability to find rough diamonds we could polish up

I give for a Shane Rodney, Joe N, George Rose or even a Mark Bryant - when was the last time we took a fringe player and turned them into something? I am not talk about a Garrick or a Saab but someone who has not cut it another club then thrived here

Thanks for the Great Memories @ISZ
Shane Rocket Rodney , Gorgeous Georgy Rose and the Premiership Winning Mark Bryant all made great Manly contributions

Every body loves Winners and our Premiership winning Prop Mark Bryant was one of them

Your surname shouldn’t give you first grade clearance..he should be no where near the nrl…looks like a kid playing with men at the local park on a Sunday morning

Rodney and Gulavao were former premiership winners whose careers had dipped but came into a very strong side and got a new lease on life. George and Bryant were pretty young and had only played a handful of NRL before arriving at Manly, both were slow burners who were part of a team on the rise. As I recall Bryant was roundly derided as a plodder pretty much right up until the 2008 GF! Glenn Hall is different again, a journeyman at Dogs and Souths who came into a very strong side and improved to become a good player.

The key in each case is bringing them into a team on the improve. Manly finished 2019 and began 2020 as a team on the improve but for whatever reason we didn't handle the Covid comp and went backwards. We revived in 2021 in spectacular fashion and were again a team on the rise. This improvement stalled in equally spectacular fashion last year.

We are a team that is trying to improve but keeps going up and down. If we can maintain a solid even gradual improvement then we might look back on players like Lawton and maybe even Tuilagi Aloia (yeah maybe not him) and Arthur as we do the ones you mentioned. (maybe!)

I just think we are not getting it right really since the crusher days

Also might be a symptom of the Panthers improving and a reduction in opportunities to recruit rough diamonds

Im of the opinion, only the good coaches can make average players look good. ie Bennett, Bellamy, Des, Robinson.
