Snake
Snake's Alive!
After the Raiders game I thought about our attack and how we struggled to score points in the first half even though we had a decent amount of ball. Then I thought about how the Jake T try was a bit of luck with the kick deflection and of course the individual brilliance of Walker gave us another try. I was still a little concerned about our attack at this point even though I was wrapped in the win.
So I looked at our for and against and noticed that outside of the Dragons, we had scored more points than any other side. I figured we must be doing something right but what it was, I couldn't put my finger on. I thought maybe it was just the freakish talents of Walker and Tom T.
Then last night happened.
It seems to me that our second phase play is killing the opposition and giving our halves time to feed the backs off quality ball. This is also where Api comes into the equation. He is very good at capitalising on these offloads and feeding the halves or Tom T off the back of them. Our pack is creating time and space for the backs and there is enough quality in the backline to take these opportunities.
We are not a side with a methodical structure in the vein on Melbourne, Cronulla, or Saints. We play like the Broncos and a little like Penrith last year. The method is simple. Push up in numbers around the forward platform and then get the ball as quickly to the backs as possible and the space is there for an opportunity to score points. It's working.
