While Manly's rookie halves combination of Daly Cherry-Evans and Kieran Foran has excited plenty of critics, the young halfback was adamant they were still a long way from their best.

However, Geoff Toovey, one of Manly's greatest players, hailed the enthusiasm and unpredictability of the boom halfback as two of his great assets.

"The good thing about Daly is while he still has a bit of work to do, he isn't scared to try things in a game," said Toovey, who led the Sea Eagles to three grand final appearances from 1995 to 1997.

"If they don't go right he just thinks, 'I'll have another crack at it'.

I like this about him too, and, as he says, they are willing to learn from each game. Once he spends more time playing with Snake, I can see a really good combination develop there, little inside balls around the ruck like Slater and Cronk, Marshall and Hodgson etc.
