Chelsea loses millions

Chelsea lost GBP70.9 million ($A113.5 million) last season despite winning the Premier League and FA Cup.

The west London club says turnover increased by 1.2 per cent to GBP205.8 million ($A329.54 million) and that a reduction in the value of its squad was the main reason for the loss.

But announcing financial results for the 12 months to June 30, 2010, Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay said the club 'is in a strong position to meet the challenges of UEFA 'financial fair play' initiatives.'

UEFA will ban clubs from European competitions from 2012 if they go into debt on football-related business.

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has bankrolled Chelsea since his 2003 takeover, earning three English titles and three FA Cups.

35 mil for Carroll is outrageous

Take out the fact he is english that makes him more expensive than David Villa...I think i read he is the 6th most expensive player in the uk

Yes defininitely overs and a gamble but a 21 yo who has already played for England. Newcastle fans are livid.

It is a crazy world where you have to pay so much for potential. D not get me wrong i think he has the potential but.....
And people wonder why the EPL is not great for the national team - why woud mst clubs spend 35mil on a english player when you can get Dzenko for less?

Huge score by Chelski for Torres. One of the best forwards I have seen. Not every game but he is terrific. Bustardos.

Unfortunately due to the transfer window and Torres wanting out it all becomes relative to what we got for Torres. You really have to discard the transfer fee (as difficult as it is at that amount). At the end of the day we secured 2 young players who want to be at Liverpool as a trade for 1 player who didnt.
