Parramatta hooker Matt Keating has undergone surgery after being attacked by his family dog.

He will be out of football for up to six weeks.

Matthew Keating had surgery today on a fractured right hand but it is understood he luckily escaped tendon and nerve damage.

The attack is believed to have occurred at his home.

Keating spent the night in hospital before having surgery today.

It is a major blow for the Eels given the club’s other hooker Casey McGuire missed Saturday night’s win over the Cowboys with a calf injury.

It is expected Anthony Mitchell will now come into the starting side if McGuire doesn’t play against the Melbourne Storm on Sunday.
