Brendon Elliot was just on Big Sports Breakfast - someone fabulous like @HappilyManly might be able to link it.
He gave a real understanding of how Des’s love of Manly has fuelled their performances this year.
Also said API trained at 6 yesterday.

Des and Co made the right call converting Brendon from his previous centre - wing background to a very reliable and quite effective full back , less so with Walker and Funa . Also to note that Brendon did play a few games as a centre for Manly . Did have that serious injury in his last Manly season but probably just on a lower contract range and thought that it could be a good move to still retain him , especially as he had done a very reasonable job as a back up full back to Turbo . Guess that the coaching staff thought that Funa , Walker and Garrick could offer enough as a back up one and salary cap factors but would have had no problem with Brendon still there to do the job just based on footy ability and dependability

He was very very underrated and did a super job for us. He was all effort - few errors and solid as. Everyone bagged him because essentially.... he wasn't Tom and wasn't explosive in attack. But I would have him every day of the week without Tom there because you always knew he would just do a good job - not a great job - not a poor job - he would be pretty damn rock solid week in and week out.

I always thought if Elliot was 5 to 10kgs heavier (read stronger) then he would have had a pretty decent NRL career.

Had that ability to break the line when you weren't expecting it also..

Guess that there is only so much weight, especially for a back that can be gained or added before it affects their natural athleticism or especially on the speed front . Came to the Roosters at a young age from memory from the Sunny Coast and sure that the strength and conditioning coaches even then would have ensured that things were kept in proportion for his ideal playing weight and so on . Naturally would vary from player to player but again would expect some limits for backs in particular .

He still had a pretty decent career from what I can see.

Well if you mean a reserve grade fill in, no we haven't. We've tried using first graders there such as Walker and then Garrick. Garrick seems to have the back-up job for now and I'd say he's already surpassed Elliot in ability.

Speaking of fullbacks with first name Brendon, Brendon Reeves, our Northern Eagles fullback who I remember was exceptionable under bombs, and a good defender, also best remembered for kicking that goal from the sideline to win a match for us. Always gave 100% effort into every game.
