Ben Turbo

I mentioned in another thread that this kid looks physically ready. He is built like a brick ****house and speed to burn. He looks a lot broader and thicker than Tom.
I seen an interview that he said he has been training in the "backs" he never specifically said centre. He said his preferred position is centre but he has been training as a back. Does this mean Des is looking at using him as a centre or winger? Imagine Ben T and Saab on the wings and Turbo at the back, it would be the biggest back 3 ever assembled. Geez our outside back depth looks good next year, what was a weakness will now be a strength. The final piece of the puzzle is a #9 OR a star quality #14 if Fainu isn't back.

I'd be looking at young Joshua Cook from the Rabbits. Decent size for a hooker at six foot, needs to put on a little more muscle, but I rate him. There is no way he is getting ahead of Damien Cook (I don't believe they are related), so we might be able to get him over for little money with the lure of playing first grade.

interesting that he considers himself a back I thought otherwise

Ben is well built with height, would be interesting if he could play wing / fullback.

Played most of his junior games as a backrower/ centre.

I have watched Ben play a fair bit and he shows real potential; however, he was always behind the likes of Schuster and Hoppa (along with everyone else mind you). The issue for Ben is that he has grown so much during this time it makes it very difficult to adjust his game to his body type - that is actually a big issue for players like him. Once he stops growing he will be able to get a better feel for his style of game and I think we will see a rapid improvement from that point on. He might take a little longer to get there, but I believe he will be an excellent player in his own right. I'd imagine that the weight of expectation that his name brings wouldn't necessarily help either.

I'm not sure of the whole getting used to his size as he's grown so quick. When I was 18 I was playing rep footy for Raiders but I was a runt. Within 24 months I bulked up 15kg of muscle and it seen me take my game to a new level and went from being a runt to playing a 1st grade trial. This was a similar case to most of us that went through the system.
They are athletes and providing their body cam withhold injuries, getting used to the size wouldn't really be that big of an issue in my opinion and experience.

I grew from five foot seven to six foot two in a year and it was very painful and hindered my sport big time (union and basketball). I lost pace at first and then when I stopped growing at about six foot three I got my pace back. Just my experience.

I am not talking about muscle mass. He has shifted between backrow and centre throughout his young career and I’d suggest that is because of his growth and not knowing quite where he is best suited.

He is very tall, taller than Tom and that can cause issues when you sprout that quickly playing contact sport.

I grew to 194cm by the time I was 19... didn’tCompletely fill out until I was into my early twenties. Didn’t really impact me much in the way of sport other than the position I played. But everyone is different.

Ohhhh Bronson Xerri style!!!!

- Kidding! I'm sure it was through hard work and heaps of protein.

Anyway...

Maybe Des is a bit scared to slot Ben in. Reason? Glad you asked. Ben was the one who pushed Jake into the water on the golf course. Des is scared that Jake would spend his 'new found' role as ball player in delivering hospital passes to Ben all game!

I had a lot of pain in the shins and hips during that period. I went from being quite quick to being this gangly guy who couldn’t run - like a lamb fresh out of the womb
