NRL to dump referees boss Tony Archer after a season of controversy and dissent

https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/s...m_campaign=EditorialSF&utm_content=SocialFlow

THE NRL has axed controversial referees boss Tony Archer after a tumultuous season of match officiating and dissension within the ranks.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg will demote Archer to a new game development role with no jurisdiction or connection with the refereeing department.

Under Archer’s watch, the NRL endured unprecedented outrage in the 2018 season over a penalty crackdown, perceived nepotism and the snubbing of fan-favourite and former grand final and Origin referee Matt Cecchin in big games.

Archer had been the boss of referees since 2013.

A confidential report this week revealed fans were robbed of eight hours of in-play action this year because of the crackdown Archer instigated.

Under a new structure, senior referee manager Bernard Sutton will now report straight to recently appointed Head of Football Graham Annesley, rather than Archer.

Annesley will oversee all appointments and have a more hands on roll.

Morale within the NRL refereeing ranks has never been lower, according to sources.

Referees have complained of a toxic culture and nepotism in appointments all year.

Typical weak Shoddy decision from the ceo- moved to another role where Archer can do more damage to the game/competition rather that dealing with the lack of performance at hand.

Glad to see he's gone from there and that Annesley is in charge but the one thing I agreed with was the crackdown.
Just trying to get teams to release a tackled player is just the rules.
Playing the ball with your foot is just the rules.
And when parasites like Rothf*ck don't like something it's got to be a good thing.
Now they've got a whole bloody committee to investigate what we could give them the answer to.
Nonetheless he was bloody hopeless and had to go.

Archer isn’t responsible for the nepotism and crap appointments. That is purely in Bernard Sutton’s court, yet he seems to have immunity. Even after Gerard Sutton has a couple of stinkers, including the fiasco between the Sharks and Canberra late in the season, Gerry gets appointed by his brother to the Grand Final as the main (and thereby apparently the best) ref.

Now... what can/will the nrl do about the Sutton cartel that has been running the show over the past few years? These peanut butter jars have far too much control.

Sutton for Archer?

Sounds like a case of ‘out of the frying pan, into the fire’.

I punched out some green turd once. It was after a massive binge on GI cordial at my 4th birthday party.

I sh-t you not.
Sutton for Archer ? Dumb for Dumber
Again Greenturd has dropped the ball or is keeping the wagons in a circle formation to protect his slimey underhand carcass

The Sutton brothers control at the top is a bigger issue than removing Archer, but of course Greenslime just ignores this.

... And there lies the root of all evils ....... the referees should be an independent body whose sole purpose should be to adjudicate on the basis of the rules of Rugby League ..... and NOT answerable to the whims and brain farts of dickheads in the admin and marketing dept .......

If Hairy Perineum gets another gig then we know it'll be more of the same rubbish for 2019
