Them / They
Forbes has released the list of the top 50 richest teams in the world.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtba...he-worlds-50-most-valuable-sports-teams-2019/

Some interesting points:
Every MLB, NBA, NFL team now worth over 1 Billion USD. ( there are 30 MLB teams alone)
Nearly all NFL teams (32) are worth 2 Billion each

Over 300 million basketball players in China

Dallas cowboys profit was $365 million USD.

Puts the nrl into some perspective.

The NFL is still the dominant sports league when it comes to the worth of its franchises. More than half of the top 50 are football squads. Credit the monster media-rights deals with the likes of CBS, NBC, Fox, ESPN and DirecTV that paid out more than $260 million per team last year.
The TV haul is a nice cushion to easily cover teams’ biggest expense item, player costs, before any tickets, sponsorships, beer or replica jerseys are sold. The cap on player salaries was $177 million last season (each team is also on the hook for $40 million annually in player benefit costs).

While I understand the population differences, and all the rest; if you have a marketable product and not tribally loyal wallet liners working for the best interests of themselves, it may be surprising what the game can achieve.

Thanks for posting.
Glad they kept my name out of it. (cough)
FMD there's some rich people out there!

I buy the MLB App each year. Cost me $100 USD. I can watch Every game live, even multiple games at a time.
Chromcast to my tv
All games in super high hd 60 frames per second.
Choose home or away commentary feed.
Many, many other features as well.

The nrl (cr)app however is terrible.

America leaders in marketing and sponsorship

We can take some lessons from them

We have the whole North side of Sydney region to our selves and the potential is there

I think unless there are good crowds nfl games are blacked out to local areas (no free to air coverage I believe). I’m a Jags fan in the nfl and I know games were blacked out in the Jax area when crowds were poor. I assume to encourage fans to attend.

There are no lessons to be learned from US sports teams because NRL doesn't have the global or even local appeal of these teams and leagues. They don't generate revenue to any degree that can be compared. It's probably more akin to a lower tier European soccer league, like say the Dutch league. Zlatan said it the other day, European clubs don't expect to make money. That's the NRL.

Also saying Barca are the 4th most valuable sports team in the world is like saying Uber is a great stock. They had to borrow money to buy Griezmann. Madrid are just as bad. Juve the same.

Yep, lessons will only be relevant when there are 300 million Australians and 60 big cities across the continent.

Where do you find the time? Talk about the opium of the people!

Agreed, and what have they done with it that’s of any note?

Too much infighting, settling of self-created vendettas etc. to see the big picture.
