2025 recruitment & retention

zero excitement about this option
Below average half
I think Volkman is hands down the best "immediate " option and looking at 2-3 years the Walsh and Large options have far more upside...in fact injury free has loads of ability
In fact I hope it's just wild speculation
I rate him in the bottom few 7's playing in the NRL and though Des is past it in many ways as a coach, he would be prioritising keeping a halfback if they had plenty to offer....as a former rep 7 himself, it's an area he has plenty of knowledge about

Given Seibold's strategy of signing experienced short term players to fill in until star juniors appear, I suspect the Sea Eagles have Joey Walsh and Onitoni Large as their future half/ five eighth combination. May change, as these things often do, but these two look like the next DCE/Foran coupling Manly have in mind. Until they reach first grade standard Brooks and an experienced half/five eighth from elsewhere, will fill in after DCE retires.

We Recruit and Retain people at our our Legendary club that have the Ability to live up to our Benchmark High Premiership Winning Standards

All Organisations have these people that hold them back and the successful ones REMOVE them .

The Moral of the Story

Their defence doesn’t work well together though
Defence is definitely Bateman's strength and most teams attack best to their left - so it does make sense to play him on the right side...
The flip side being that Huamole is a bit of a lumbering attacker and will likely clunk up our left side attacking movements...
Life is full of trade-offs...

You know what you have there. is a good ol 5 year plan, seibs has had 2 already
DCE , turbo connection all done or hanging in there on veteran money

So would seibs have the time to ride it out.

Or is this maybe the hassle with Des , well one of them , get the succession plan going that includes with or without you success

For one reason or-another it seems all of our recent succession planning in the halves has changed and manly looked to have plotted a course a tad further down the track for premiership window talk.

So is this team just really about developing next gen as we do have some lively youngsters

Key players getting older and key purchases getting rarer

Curious as to what kind of onfield reception the shoe gets if he plays against the eeegs, next year also
Very interested to see hiw the humph goes , to see i& he progresses next season if guven game time even. He could become the robotic foil that compliments souths backline under bennett

Know very little about Volkman but must have a bit going for him judging by some of the general comments on him here .
Just tend to think in the speculation category still as does not seem much more progress in acquiring him and coupled with suggestions of some injury issues .
Can "t see any real benefit in bringing in Boyd. ,. maybe as a 9 back up consideration as well at 7 [ and depending on the contract adjustment arrangements ] but hardly would think accurate reporting as a possible successor to D C E [ who incidentally, Re- article , is 36, not 35 now ]
Bit of a void in Humphreys leaving but maybe better to go Brooks - Arthur if D C E is not available
Not sure how Bateman would go as a 13 , doubt he has played much there previously but good , natural footy player at his best or in form so one never knows

Got that wrong on D C E, still 35 [ on quick reflection ]
, Actually know a local lad who grew up with him for a while and played junior footy with him and mentioned that he had good speed even as a junior league player

I think Tanah Boyd is a reasonably good player who could be used as a hooker. He also is a good goal kicker. This could be important. Sandwich's goalkicking is keeping him in our top 13. If we had another option then he may be squeezed out of our backline because, purely on form, he currently is behind Hoppa Jnr, Koala and TTII.

In terms of wing play , would still rate Rueben a bit ahead of Lehi but would still expect Rubs to hold down one centre spot with Koula .
Really like Talau as a centre as well and not much between Rubs and T T 2 there .
Probably will come down to either Lehi or Talau for one wing spot with Rueben 's kicking value to further ensure him an outside back position .
Not too sure if T T 2 would be partial to a move to a roving 13 type role or any 13 role , maybe a long shot but not the worst suggestion to put out there again .

Get this for left field Al....imagine iif Koula could turn into a defensive weapon and have him at lock, with Oka and Bateman edges....suddenly a fast team all round !!

This way we have the back 5 as -

Well I would like to see this given a go, though I don't think Gaz was terrible at centre, he does have a few defensive issues and personally, I would have Hoppa straight in centre, as he oozes classe and is a genuine Star of the future and Tom Talau was arguably near best back and played himself into the top 17...forget Hoppa got bustled by Roosters - that issue was a flow from their forwards owning us that final, the test vs Australia though at 1, he showed he is ready imo.

1 - Tom T
2 - Saab
3 - Hoppa - centre or wing
4 - Talau - centre or wing
5 - Gaz - centre or wing

I honestly see Koula as a great impact, like when Walker came on adding energy and could play short stints in the middle in the modern game, stocky build and can power into traffic....apart from that amazing try vs Dogs and a damn great try saving tackle that deserved more recognition same game, I don't feel Koula has lived up to expectations in 2024 and is not a lock at centre based on form...I know he has Massive ability and speed and many will feel differently, but that's just how I seen it play out last season.

Tannah boyd is a decent player in the deardon style

They are good style to build teams around as they offer a bit of everything without being particularly gifted in any certain area. I see him as a perfect Michael Monaghan style player that could start as a half and move into 9 or bench if one of the young ones smashes it in a couple of years

He and brooks would go Ok I reckon

Providing you dont overpay like the knights have with hasting manly could transition hm smoothly and plan for it

if we could get boyd for something like foran money its savvy

I'm far from convinced the Shoe is yesterday's news. I suspect for a number of reasons, pushing him into the second row when he was coming of age after being seen as the next big thing at 5/8, injuries, weight issues partly the result of the second row/5/8 switch, personal demons probably brought on by frustration regarding how he was being used etc resulted in the likelihood of him reaching his goals at Manly, diminishing year by year. I think he signed on the big dollar contract because it was the biggest available but I dont think his heart was in it. His future at Manly had died.

A fresh start at the Rabbits with a known successful coach who gets the best out of his cattle, will reignite his career. Whether he hits the heights expected of him will much depend upon his personal issues and how he faces his new role. Personally I hope he shows what I think he is capable of, though hopefully not against Manly.
