2025 recruitment & retention

I can provide some feedback in that Hooper is, has and always will be WAY OFF the mark with the entire non-financial and financial background regarding the Fainu signings with the Wests Tigers.

I seldom comment on such matters but the financial amount is structured in such away that the combined deal is well in excess of $4million with staggered incentives that would make your eyes water.

What Hooper has heard and what was agreed too are completely different; they obtained a fantastic deal but once again, the friendly media hacks aligned with their manager and the former football manager made it seem like Manly were "incompetent" for letting them go, that's not the case at all.

It was sad to see them leave the Club however, we couldn't and did not enter into a bidding war for them and at that point, they were agitating for a release and then granted permission to leave.
Honestly , that makes way more sense. Thanks mate. I also 100% support what you are saying, because I witnessed it first hand.

When the media were all claiming Choc was on $900k a season at the end for us , the contract I personally viewed was on a bit less than half of that, and he was actually taking a haircut so that other players could also fit into the cap and stay together at Manly. I think this is why and where his frustration with DCE's mindset towards the cap cake from.

Love Watmough.

Not sure why we don’t look to the UK for signings. Particularly in the forward department. Has worked extremely well for the Raiders.
Excellent question. Yes, the Raiders have trouble attracting people to Canberra. (Australia's biggest ever mistake that place) However it's like Tahiti compared to Leeds or Wigan. We've also had great success recruiting from England. Not recently admittedly. We should be monitoring Super League however I don't have much confidence in our recruitment team. Doubt they monitor the NRL let alone Super League.

I thought super league was were you went to play if no NRL club wanted you, but you still had a mortgage to pay.

Just saying’

You're welcome Ryan.

Several. I usually understand this to mean 3.
Correct ?
Below are two of the "many" definitions for several (no pun intended) @The Insomniac
"A couple is two. Few and several depend on the context and how many you're selecting them from. In general, I would assume that a few was less than 10% of whatever the total number is, and several is definitely more than four, and probably more than six"
"Several means between four (4) and eleven (11). It can be any number between this range, the term 'several' is used as the number because it is a digit in the middle. A dozen is always twelve. No more and no less, but twelve (12) precisely."

Well done mate. Often wondered about several. Especially recently when the traffic cop asked me how many beers I'd had. It was definitely more than 2 but less than 4 so I said several. He looked confused. Blew under thank God.

Yeah but the rorters resigned Jennings too... and God help us if we are using the Broncos as our benchmark...

Scott was at the Storm first - he was a young gun when Storm signed him and the only thing he had against his record when he signed with faders was that he knew how to deal with DV perpetrators...

Embarrassing enough that Walker was here as long as he was but his DV issues occurred when he was already under contract...

Manly actually WENT TO MARKET to buy a bloke with a record like Lodge's...I have only just now become aware that AFB also had DV charges when we signed him...

What price a win? We want rainbows to demonstrate tolerance but we will hand out contracts to DV perpetrators... disgusting...
Yes St George kicked him out over beating his gf/missus up

Roosters are 1 of the most dominate clubs the past decade & had Lodge signed. What does that say about their culture? or broncos, Warriors. What about Storm signing Curtis Scott after he was sacked by Raiders for his off field issues? Their culture seems to be fine

I bet everyone here would take AFB back in a heartbeat?
Exactly. Club culture and standards are simply PR and group assimilation buzzwords that are utilised for the sole purpose of winning footy games. Fans, members, sponsors want wins above all else.

Sitting back and b*tching about the personal lives, and mistakes made, of our young quasi-celebrities is an activity for those at the foot of the ladder, or some misguided projection of their own personal flaws.

We are in the business of watching athletes compete. Winner takes all. Nothing else matters in this domain
