Given Vaega is on there, it must be a reflection of who actually is signed to the club next year.Wow Corey Waddell's photo MIA.
Im a little stunned by that.
Might mean we do have a bit of cash available...

And? So Gould’s whole recruitment/talent identification/coaching/structuring,gets thrown out the window because of that one decision?A decision that in hindsight has seemed to have worked.Didn’t he sack Cleary?
Yeah unconfirmed both had been resigned. But the drum on Waddell wasnt a short one either I thought it was 3 years.Given Vaega is on there, it must be a reflection of who actually is signed to the club next year.

I would have thought that the coach has had more to do with their success than Gould! And? So Gould’s whole recruitment/talent identification/coaching/structuring,gets thrown out the window because of that one decision?A decision that in hindsight has seemed to have worked.
At what point did I say Gould was the sole reason Penrith are where they are now??? And Cleary coaches the First grade side,do you think he’s looking after all the juniors that the club has and is bringing through? This is the sort of thinking that has got Manly in trouble of recent times.Just thinking of the top grade for short term “success” is a one way street to trouble. At the moment, the club basically has 3 local juniors, give or take a couple that were brought into the system and those 3 are from the same womb. Its a sad state of affairs when fans go into a season with the sole expectation is to avoid the wooden spoonI would have thought that the coach has had more to do with their success than Gould!
Just sayin’
Well you can thank Terry Hill for the NRL not having one....I so wish that we had the AFL draft system where the best kids get picked by the bottom teams in an endeavour to become a better team.
Yes I know that , but it’s just a fair system.Well you can thank Terry Hill for the NRL not having one....
He had a punch on with Schuster, automatic 1 year deal.I really don’t understand how Matterson has a top 30 deal
Every club does, they may get suspended a few times but you need to have a player feared by the opposition.Do we needs a bad boy in the middle?
We need to continue doing what we've doing of late. Identifying young players from other codes and catchments and bring them in eg. Willett, Large, Walsh. There is a number of players off the top of my head that haven't player nrl in the junior system that would be worth looking at. So surely there would be much more. While Gould isn’t some dumb arse it’s easy to say the best system is junior development when you literally have thousands of kids in the system.
Manly are one of the clubs who don’t have a large catchment, so we need a different approach.

I’m not an AFL fan but I have a mate who is a Richmond fan and I think he told me they get something like 4 or 5 of the top 20 kids because they ran last this year.
I get all the downsides to a draft but if we want bottom teams becoming top teams it’s something like this that will have to happen .
No argument here... just a matter of whether legal precedent can be defeated first time a player or their manager decides to challenge it...Yes I know that , but it’s just a fair system.
Yes I get played may have to go away from their home area but they get paid big dollars to do so.
Do we really have a governing body and clubs that want it? If we did, it would already be in place. No argument here... just a matter of whether legal precedent can be defeated first time a player or their manager decides to challenge it...
You are correct. The governing body, the clubs and the RLPA, as well as every individual player, would have to agree for a draft system to even stand a chance. And even then, as @frank stokes says, the minute any player (say, a young player about to get drafted somewhere he doesn't want to go) challenged the system in court, it would fall over as a restraint of trade.Do we really have a governing body and clubs that want it? If we did, it would already be in place.
Well consider the draft idea to be dead on the vine... if Nick says no...
