2025 recruitment & retention

I have not evidence, but one would have to assume that Terrell May is a serious off-field concern given (a) the Roosters shedding of so many talented players for 2025, freeing up cap space, (b) May's strong end of season form, (c) their sombrero and (d) his recent re-signing. Lets face it, the Roosters do not let go of players they want to keep; with their cap situation and his 425k a season contract, it's clear they could find a way to keep him if they wanted to. It speaks volumes.

Agree that the Roosters are obviously concerned about something, or multiple things. But he has improved dramatically over the last few seasons and we are in desperate need of grunt in the pack. And we did manage to find room in our hearts (and salary cap) for AFB, who had issues of his own and I would take back in a heartbeat.
 
Both his brothers have been sacked from NRL contracts for highly unsavoury (and criminal) matters, despite being top talents. I'd have been wary of him even for that family connection, but this Chooks news means Terrell can go to Tigers (desperate) or Dogs (Gus has a god complex and can possibly fix anything).
(Having said that I never thought we'd sign Lodge!!) 😱

I know where you're coming from but the part that concerns me is there's no public reporting of any misdemeanours from Terrell. Players usually get sacked and/or released when trouble goes 'public' and it's usually PR damage control. Another club swoops in the name of reformation and we move on. That hasn't happened in this instance, meaning the Roosters are free to keep him without it adversely impacting their brand. Thus, the fact they want to move him on regardless, alarms me.

That was a surprise to me. I thought he was the "good May". Nice of the Roosters to wait till he’s in the UK playing for Samoa to drop that news. There’s got to be more to it. He’s been playing better each time I’ve seen him. I reckon Gus will have him at the Dogs.

We should sign him. He is young, a lot better player than Bateman and cheaper.
We also need a big mobile prop with a bit of aggro.

However, that would mean Seibold would need to coach him.
Hmmm. I guess we know the answer then 🙃

There are some alternatives there though to free up some coin to strengthen the middle and edge forward roles, have got good quality and depth with the 3/4 line and some promising talent coming through there.

I personally think that the club could let go a player who is on decent dollars to balance the squad for next season.

I would be looking at moving on Aloiai. I don’t think that will happen as we only just extended him.
Not too sure who else on decent money at the club we could move on

I agree with Alioia the last deal he was on 600K a season, it makes that 475K May was getting at the Rorters looking like a tremendous bargain, though we do need some depth with the middles.

I looked at the strongest part of the squad and I thought the depth in the 3/4 line is very good, looking at the highest remuneration being paid to an individual player there is Koula and Garrick.

Koula has plenty of upside and with youth on his side will be a better player as he grows.

Garrick is the one for me he could still get a contract where the club wouldn’t have to pay any freight and at 27 years of age he has probably reached his ceiling.

Could be as simple as a personality clash... maybe he had a falling out with Angus or Sam or one of the senior players at the club... maybe the rorters are freeing up coin for Hunt or Paps (or both, they would defs have the cap space 🙄) who knows?? what I do know is he is the best prop to ACTUALLY come onto the market in forever and an opportunity like this does not present itself often... not that it matters if we cannot even afford Bateman... 😪

If that is the standard then we need to put Lehi on the market real quick plus Guac was (is?) Manase-the-knife's best friend so he needs to go... and then there is Lodge - well, I dont need to tell you about his record @Kiwi Eagle lol...

to my knowledge Terrell has not been accused of anything similar to his two brothers and if we arre going to apply the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Rule then nobody out of south-west Sydney should ever be signed...

Go back a few months, and we saw the brain capacity of the bloke when he and a few others were involved in a social media livestream, hinting that they were on some gear during it

Obviously no absolute proof of anything, or laws proven to be broken, but doesn’t strike you as a move someone with some strong capacity between the ears would be involved in

Brandon Smith, Latrell Mitchell, Kalyn Ponga... all more senior than Terrell and you cannot tell me that they are not worth an NRL contract because they were partying one night and someone pulled out a camera?

Anyone who thinks our current NRL squad are purer-than-the-driven-snow is kidding themselves...

It may be that there is a yet-to-be-released issue that is an absolute deal-breaker to signing him but so far I am not aware of one... and the "his-brothers-are-w*nkers-so-he-obviously-is-too" line is not doing it for me....

This kid (well he is 26) is a potential game-changer to our squad for mine...

Chooks have just lost JWH and Tupounuia, but suddenly don't need a 24yo prop who played every game this year, plays extremely long minutes (average 45, played 80 min in one game!) 97.8% tackle efficiency, plus 40 offloads ... and is only on $450K... yep, nothing to see here.

And yeah I know they have 2 other good young forwards in Siua Wong and Nafahu Whyte (hey, maybe May's problem is that he has trouble telling Whyte from Wong?)
