Dale Copley is set for a surprise return to the Roosters to reinforce Trent Robinson's injury-ravaged backline stocks.

The Broncos veteran is understood to be in line for an early release from Red Hill to link with the Roosters before next Monday's mid-season transfer deadline.

Copley has emerged as the Tricolours' preferred choice in the player market after Manly's Jorge Taufua and Tevita Funa were considered as potential immediate signings.

The Roosters have identified Storm hooker Brandon Smith as their priority target to fill the hole left by club legend Boyd Cordner following his retirement.

The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield revealed in an exclusive Roosters boss Nick Politis and general manager of football Daniel Anderson have contacted Smith’s agent, Stan Martin.

Cronulla have extended an NRL lifeline to former Raiders forward Kai O’Donnell after his first-grade career appeared over.

Regarded by the Raiders as physical and a dedicated trainer, O’Donnell will join the Sharks’ bubble later this week after signing a train and trial contract for the remainder of the season.

The 98kg lock-forward was reluctantly released by the Raiders last month as a result of the club needing to cap the amount of players that were allowed to relocate to their Queensland hub at 30.

As the Dragons close in on Moses Mbye they are eyeing off another Moses – this time Manly’s destructive centre Moses Suli.

The Dragons pushed hard to snatch Suli from the Sea Eagles 12 months ago but the 23-year-old inked a new two-year deal to remain at Manly.

While Manly are loath to let him go, Suli is suddenly outside the top 17 as he sits behind Brad Parker and Morgan Harper for a starting centre spot. Injuries and the form of his Sea Eagles teammates have limited him to just 10 games.

SHARKS CIRCLING SEA EAGLE

The Sharks are circling off-contract Manly back-rower Jack Gosiewski for next season. Gosiewski, who made his debut for South Sydney in 2016 before joining the Sea Eagles in 2018, has played just two matches this season.

Broncos halfback Brodie Croft and Canterbury centre Will Hopoate will make the move to the Super League next year.

Croft has signed with Salford after Brisbane told him that the club would not stand in the way if he wanted to explore options elsewhere in 2022, while Hopoate will link with Tonga coach Kristian Woolf at St Helens.

Gold Coast has expressed interest in signing Sydney Roosters star Joey Manu.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal Gold Coast has held internal discussions about making a substantial offer for Manu, who comes off contract after next season.

Manu can start fielding offers from November 1 this year.

NRL clubs aren’t meant to be talking to Joey Manu until November 1, but at least two clubs have jumped the gun with an extraordinary bidding war evolving.

Fresh from reports in recent weeks that the Warriors were considering a rich deal worth up to $1 million per-season, it has now emerged the Titans are also preparing an offer that would make Manu one of the highest paid players in the game.

Manu’s form this season has made him one of the most in-demand players in the competition — and he’s also attracted the eye of New Zealand Rugby Union where the Kiwi could be offered an opportunity to play for the All Blacks.

The Roosters want to hold onto the 25-year-old.

Dragons forward Tyrell Fuimaono has inked a new two-year deal to remain at St George Illawarra, and he won't be the only Fuimaono at the club from here on.

The club announced on Wednesday that Tyrell's sister, Taliah, will join the Dragons' women's side.

Trent Robinson has confirmed he has spoken with off-contract utility Connor Watson about a Roosters return as the Knights hope their three-year extension brings discussions to a head.

Watson's future has been uncertain for some time, with Newcastle hoping for a verdict on his plans beyond 2021 in the days after Sunday's critical clash with Cronulla.

Wayne Bennett is less than two months from beginning his second season without a fulltime coaching role in 45 years, but the South Sydney mentor insists he isn’t done yet and wants to take charge of a second Brisbane team.
