2017 Team is Faster

A few signings like young Kelly, Locke, Uate and Omar with possibly 1 more outside back to come, seems to offer something very obviously lacking in 2016 - genuine speed.
Also Lane and Sironen in the forwards offer extra pace even allowing for the loss of Buhrer - who had plenty of toe.
Be interesting to see the full lineup, but seems a great mix of size and speed - just hope it has substance and the combinations and attitude are on from the outset.....
There's 1 certainty though - there's no substitute for speed - simply a massive asset to have some back after looking on the sluggish side much of 2016.

we also signed John Sila and Pat Matele (nick name, keep your theivin hands off ma tele)

There is speed there
My concern is that have we got the game plan for the team to come together, So many times last year we looked lost especially inside the the opposing sides 20

Probably because we had a different halves combo almost every week and persisted with the Walker 5/8th experiment for too long. Too much pressure on DCE (when he wasn't injured) and this made our attack predictable.

Hopefully this is fixed now we have a genuine half in Green. This will lighten the load on DCE so expect his game to lift. Fully fit Turbo will pop up on either side as a running/ball playing option. Walker back to centre. Kelly as an up and coming superstar. Can't wait. Bring on 2017.
I'm in a agreement with you there

Yeah that's all great and that but can we defend?
Surely we can, you'd like to think. The backline will take a little bit of time but we have hard hitters and big bodies in Taufua and Uate along with a bloody solid (to say the least) backrow in Tapau, Sironen (quite a big unit) and Trbojevic to help out the backs a little. Walker and whoever our other centre will be shouldn't be too bad. Very big side we've got there. I mentioned it in another thread but we should be pretty damn intimidating should some signings pay off.

Matt Parcell proved to be an amazing support player this season as well, he did it so often you wouldn't even think it happened. I'm getting excited for next season

I'm interested to see how they'll deal with API and Parcell. May have played their cards when they were shopping Parcell around (not that I agree with it).

Lewis Brown I believe will get a bench spot so it makes no sense to have 2 dummy halves and Brown who can cover hooker.

I'd say either Parcell or Api is going to play ressies. Probably the former if they were trying to shop him to Cronulla.
Yeah, Personally I 200% believe that Parcell should be in the starting side with api in reggies for a halves/hooker backup. I really don't know if brown will stay at manly for long, he may not even make the 17 but I guess he deserves another chance... unlike Myles who shouldn't even make the nrl alone.

I don't believe for a minute that we were shopping Parcell around though

Good comment, it's hard to fault your logic. At least the sharkies didn't take Matty so we still have him up our sleeve if Api goes down or isn't up to it!!

If only we had Steve Austin in the centres.

Pardon the language but Parcell $hits all over Api as a dummy half. Anyone who thinks differently is delusional.

He's also a better defender than Api.
Call me delusional .... but all the hype that came with Matt Parcell was not backed up with on field performances .... he has heaps to learn .... he showed no cleverness, no organizing, his passing was not much better than Api's, defense no better, dummy half runs no better .... he may end up a good hooker even a great hooker but I've seen nothing yet that justifies the wraps he came with ...

Agree, but with all the team changes, his own injuries, rookie year, I am prepared to cut him some slack, and hope he fires in '17.

He seems to have the physical attributes, but my worry with him is that he doesn't seem to possess the dominant alpha male personality required by hookers today. Cranky little ****s that push their forwards about the park and own the ruck.

Personally a massive than of Parcell & agree did not live up to the hype - particularly the wraps I gave the kid....thing is....the spine was all over the shop....changes weekly -injuries to Snake, Turbo, DCE & Parcell himself.
At times pathetic go forward behind a beaten pack ...Cameron Smith would have looked ordinary.
Add the stability of Green - Walker back to centre...a more cohesive team & some big boppers punching North....this year will be a far more accurate gauge to his ability & again....will go on record to he say will create massive headaches to opposition defence & be a different player to what we seen in 2016.
By the way - add him to the Faster team list @;)

I also was a fan and hope after this season I will be again .... yes there were reasons/excuses last season but I don't think he grabbed the bull by the horns when he had a opportunity to stand up ... really hope he does this year he is still young ... but I agree with Woodsie .... he needs some mongrel
