It’s 13 years ago and I can’t remember the exact circumstances at the time but this year , and the end to it feels very “ 2006 like”.

Common themes are,

*Rebuilding year

*Much better performance than expected

*Late season injuries

*Made finals but fell ( or likely to) at the first hurdle

I reckon this will put us in good stead for 2020/21.

I reckon 2021-2023 is our best chance of a title.
Think very similar year next year 5-8 th
Then 2021 top 4.
The good thing about it is you can only see improvement in this squad.
The scary thing is when we click for a whole game in the next few years I would not want to face us we have a core of a good squad just need to work on playing more consistent football.

I don't think we will fall at the first finals hurdle.
Sharks or Broncs at Brookie.. no dramas with either of those match-ups.

Without Tom T I wouldn't be discounting the Sharks and Broncos as a threat to us. The Broncos would scare the crap outta me in the finals WITH Tom.

I’d like to think so too BUT we are pretty busted at present aren’t we??

Thinking of the future:
* Parker tried as a second rower, ala Lawrence from the Tuggers
* Tafua tried as a second rower
* Suli tried as a prop, ala Wiki from Canberra
* Walker not signed. Use his $700,000 to buy 4/5 Ruben Garrick type centres/wingers
* Funa and Hopoate Jnr given a chance in 1st grade backline
* Josh Schuster considered as a super-sub
* Zac Saddler given a shot at the top grade

IMO, our forwards are good, with young'uns like Guaca in consideration. Our backline is not up to the standard of most and needs re-energising.

You know
@Mark from Brisbane its a lot like 1991.
We were headed for top 3 and lost Des Hasler and Ian Roberts in the second last round. Played Parra in the last round.
Then went out in straight sets to norths and Canberra.

Not all is lost. We have a team with a great coach and a massive heart

We will beat broncos/sharks and then beat souths/raiders and lose to storm in the QF. Best we could hope for this year.

I would rather lose the QF then scrape into the GF and get slaughtered by the roosters ... i could not take that, still salty over 2013

A 5th-8th finish next year will be a slight failure tbh given how we have gone this season. Another brutal pre-season with our quality coaching staff and with a lot of our younger brigade being a year older and wise, we really should be aiming for a top 2 finish next year with a finish in the top 4 at the very least.

Injuries should be the only reason why we wouldn’t make the top 4 next year

Pretty obvious but it all depends on next week.

I can see souths getting a touch up from the rooters so leaves the ball in our court.

With the injuries yesterday the squeels will either do a number on us or fall flat as we stamp our authority. Only 20 ahead in for and against so a win of 10+ to those dirty bastards will do us.

I feel if we win we can kick on if not it could be a slide out this year.

100 % agree. No way we over achieved this year, we have a side that should always be competing for top 4. 6 rep players! We just really, really under performed last year, not over achieved this year

top 4 again next year minimum if the team can stay healthy and some of the young stars come through.

Or like 2014. Got ourselves into a great position on the ladder heading into finals, then lost about 3-4 key players. Glen Stewert, Choc, Ballin etc. Then got eliminated in straight weeks. Injuries at the wrong time of year

Ummmmm if they're that good why are they languishing in the bottom 8? Neither the Broncos or Sharks worry me at all.

The only worry about the Sharks is Graham/Xerri.

Their foward pack is criminally over-rated.
Aaron Woods has to be the laziest prop in defence that I've ever seen. Fifita not much better.
We will kill them through the middle, if Suli and Parker can hold the edges.

Broncos. Meh.

At full strength with everything going for us we were a chance for a prelim final. No one is going to beat Storm or Rorters again for the GF. Now we are heading for 6th and a first week exit to the donkeys. Parra will be handed next week, I'd even say we're in for another 30 point hiding. Losing Tom is like all the times we lost Snake. We go rudderless in attack and disorganised in defense.

Still remember that Raiders game - try for try with Kevin Iro a weapon that day....the canberra backrower Coyne scored 3 or 4 tries.

Haha, fair enough. Big call!! Although I don't know what 'languishing in the bottom 8' means. Umm, last I checked they were in the 8.
