So watching a punch up in a NRL game on tv yesterday is bad, watching a punch up in a NRL game from 1981 on tv today is ok? Shouldn't Toddy be phoning Fox and letting them know not to show it as it could make mums and kiddies cry and encourage drunks to throw punches?

Yes, most are losing games as they seem to have misslaid Manly's winning ones.

Manly won most games played out of any club between the 70s and the 90s. However If you watch nostalgia games on fox we seem to lose an awful lot!

Yeah it's the Bowden/Broadhurst fight game (get all or any kiddies in bed or away from the tv if that's a concern).

Same goes for the squeamish, lol, I suppose.

Or just look away for awhile and watch the rest.

Just started watching it now and the brawlin' starts from the word go.

I was (and remain) disgruntled that Bowden resorted to head-butting. (It's not a street-fight or even a pub-fight). Back in those days men sorting things out on-the-field with their fists was common.

Broadhurst was a semi-pro boxer and may have had Bowden covered (hence the head-butts). Both very hard men and I'm on Broadhurst's side of course. And, as I think about it now, if HE'D started head-butting Bowden, I'd probably have forgiven it!

Compare that to the absolute opposite extreme now....Blokes group-hugging and two-steppin' around is almost as bad, or as embarrassing a look for the game as an-all-in-brawl.

Not advocating unbridled thuggery out there, but this no-punch rule has made the game look too much like AFL's hug-and-hold charade.

Anyway the footy's started normally now. (Knowing we lose is a bummer).
