MANLY'S long-running saga to find a replacement for chief executive Grant Mayer is no closer to being solved because the co-owners can't agree on the right man. The Penn family wants a recruitment agency to advertise and put forward recommendations. The Delmege family wants to employ former Kiwi and Sea Eagles coach Graham Lowe. To make it even messier, leagues club directors are pushing for former CEO Pat Wilson to return to the club. It's a shame, but it's becoming increasingly clear Manly's co-owners cannot settle their differences on just about every issue. The Penn and Delmege families are both really decent and charming people and share a common love for the Sea Eagles ... they just can't seem to work together.

It seems that the two owner situation is proving to be problematic and not improving. That these things are out in the public is even worse.

Is it time for one of the owners to walk on? We have already lost one really good CEO and that seems to be having a negative impact.

Who is leaking this information to the press?  This should be kept in house until a CEO is chosen.

With every disagreement and argument being leaked to the press no wonder  decent candidates don't want to apply for the CEO's job.

The club is a mess at the moment.

Pat Wilson. I'd rather squirt into a tissue watching porn, and make THAT CEO than have him in the chair.

Sounds like you favour Paul CUMmins Ryan as CEO. ;D

Neither is the CEO that we want.  What has Lowe been doing the past 20 years other than sending his CV to every vacant job in Australia?

Max Krillich is the man for CEO.

To answer a wee bit of your question tookey

He has a big role in a massive failure when he got involved with a Maori group and they bought the Warriors, who went under after a couple of seasons

Had a big role in the NZRL a couple of years back, that resulted in a massive divide in the organisation, resignation of coaches and in the end they dis established his position in the organisation.

Has had a role coaching 1 of the smaller provinces over here as well

Bec and Buzz patching together a nasty little piece out of thin air to destabilise the club yet again.  What utter nonsense it is too - as we've seen, the recruitment agency has been involved in the process, it's not a debate about whether it should happen or not.

Lowe is not the answer

Our co-owners are 2 different schools of business
1 - Sensible pure business
2 - Jobs for the boys

A recruitment company would be worth the 7.5 to 15% that you pay, they would certainly put only suitable people forward and have the skills nad knowledge to help pick the best candidates

True CW but who is it going to be to put their hand up for the better interest of the club and walk away. Currently it just keeps getting messier each month that passes.

Word on the street is that max would love to sell but he doesnt want (or is too proud) to see Penn "win"

Terrific. More ego based decision making to the detriment of the club.

Statement: MANLY'S long-running saga to find a replacement for chief executive Grant Mayer is no closer to being solved because the co-owners can't agree on the right man.

Wrong – there isn’t a definite person in the frame as yet for them to argue about?
A management group was set up to work with the recruitment company representative and review and interview prospective candidates and make a recommendation. There were around 130 applications which has now been whittled away to a short list

Statement: The Penn family wants a recruitment agency to advertise and put forward recommendations. The Delmege family wants to employ former Kiwi and Sea Eagles coach Graham Lowe.

Wrong – A recruitment company has been contracted to run the recruitment campaign (as can be seen by the advert that appeared on MWSE and via the on-line recruitment web site)

Statement: To make it even messier, leagues club directors are pushing for former CEO Pat Wilson to return to the club.

Wrong – The position has been advertised, the committee made up of several Sea Eagles board members will review the candidates and the entire board will make the final decision with emphasis on the person being the best for the job

Wrong: Both Max Delmege and Rick Penn no longer attend the board meetings and with people like Jack Elsegood, Melinda Gainsford Taylor and Kerry Chrysiliou now on the board I am hearing that the mood around the board table is considerably positive and that great progress is being made on many fronts

So, although it would be unwise to suggest that all of the problems that have been reported in the past are now resolved however to suggest that there has been no progress is a beat up especially when the points to support the argument are fundamentally wrong…

No one likes us…we don’t care

Thanks for the update and the de-myth-tification. So is there a time frame on the selection of a new CEO?

Thanks Vidmar - good to clear some of that up, though the uneasiness between owners has been an ongoing cancer that seems to have undermined the club at so many levels. This is an important appointment - I hope they get it right.

They got it right last time, then ****ed it up.

Who is to say it will be any different this time??

No disrepspect mate - but dear lord - we need someone with certain skills. Playing for the team, or coaching the team doesn't necessarily relate to that.

Penn is 100% right. We need to advertise externally for the most appropriate applicant.

This, give the job to X or Y player because they were "really good" is insular, siloist and redneck. X footy players without degrees and business acumen should not be making business decisions about this club.

The sooner the board get it in their head that in this day and age, a job for the ol' boys just doesn't work anymore, the better.

Look at Osborne for the slime. He comes in, brings Timanah Tahu with him, signs Justin Poore, Signs Shakleton, brings on 2 major sponsors then potentially attains 20+ mill for Parramatta Stadium !!

Answer this. Could Pat Wilson (LoL), or Graham Lowe do these things?
THEN of coarse, we have the Greenberg example.
