Game Day: Manly V Dolphins [Round 25, 2025]

Cricket score is on the cards today. And maybe Siebold's coaching career with it. We can live in hope.

    Tom and Jake

Tom still has a chance. Jake maybe not so much, barring some miraculous improvements. But they need to take their share of the blame for that. They are on huge contracts that make it hard to be competitive enough in the player market to build a balanced roster, and of late their form hasn't...

    Pre-Game Manly V Dolphins [Round 25, 2025]

I won't be sad to see the Dolphins win. They have a much better chance of being competitive in the finals if they can edge in ahead of the Roosters. And a Manly win would just drag out our false hope for another week. DCE losing Game 350 has a poetic justice to it too.

The Timeline of the 2025 Collapse

What I find interesting about this timeline is the idea that DCE made that fateful appearance on 100% footy to get out ahead of a leak. That would explain a bit. Signing Fogarty would have made it pretty clear he was leaving, even if it had all been kept under wraps. But yes the high road would...

    2026 recruitment & retention

If you had an offer from the 4x back to back premiers, looking likely for a serious crack at a 5th, and a club that is capitulating at the end of the season - who would you pick?

    Tom and Jake

Jake still has a lot to offer. We just need to use him properly. Tom just needs some confidence back. Both of them need to be on reduced contracts, they can't be pulling down superstar money when they aren't putting in superstar performances. But I hope they both stay at the club.

    2026 recruitment & retention

I think Des would have had what was required to dig us out of a lot of these holes but unfortunately he had his legs cut out from under him by the geniuses in the front office who thought the pride jersey would be a good idea.

    Joey Walsh

If we lose this week, which seems very likely, then the finals go from being a mathematical possibility to pure impossibility. At that point I hope Siebold pivots completely to giving younger guys experience. We are already safe from the spoon, so all that is left is to do things that will be...

    2026 ( the Nostradamus thread )

In the realm of hope: Joey Walsh, Onitoni Large, Zaidas Maugututia and Hugo Hart to be First Graders by season's end. Siebold to be replaced either after or during the season Fogarty to be a massive improvement on DCE

    2026 recruitment & retention

We didn't announce the signings of Tevaga and Taukeiaho until October and November respectively last year, so I assume we will see some more activity in the offseason. Hopefully players of at least that quality.

I wonder if we can release him to the UK. I'd rather Fogarty / Walsh and the extra cap space.

The Rumour that we hear everywhere

The rest of our off season recruiting will be the big tell for whether we are in with any hope next year. I don't mind the bargain basement recruits if it's what we need to do to survive until 2027 but I'd like to see more Taukeiahos and fewer Waddells.

Yes a good half certainly makes a big difference. Hence the crazy contracts the good ones get

    Pre-Game Manly V Dolphins [Round 25, 2025]

This could be our biggest ever loss at Brookie. Our pack is awful and the Dolphins are capable of putting on big points.

    next year's spine

Forget the spine, who will be our pack for 2026? If we get that wrong again, the spine won't even matter.

    Sack Seibold Immediately

If you had to choose between losing your forward pack and losing your backline, I'd choose losing the backline. Having crap backs will limit your points, having crap forwards means you can't even get into the contest.

    Sack Seibold Immediately

I think our injury toll will be what saves Siebold. To be fair to him - most clubs would struggle if you took out most of their first choice forward pack. The problem is that this is also masking the bigger issue - that the players who are fit just aren't performing.
