Major sporting codes [including NRL] to back Voice to parliament

I think you've tried to read way too far into what I've said here. When I said political movement I meant "a group of people working together to achieve a political goal" I.e. working class players wanting to play without the risk of financial ruin and by we, I mean individuals. Edit...

Major sporting codes [including NRL] to back Voice to parliament

No one is denying the existence of politics in support, but many are calling for the relationship to end, at least for particular issues. And this is what I and others have been trying to highlight - that it has always been a part of the game and that many good things have come out of this. To...

Major sporting codes [including NRL] to back Voice to parliament

The working class players wanted to be paid. Those who didn't need to work didn't think it should be a problem and the RFU's attitude was if you can't afford to play then don't. This was very political and resulted in the split that gave us rugby league. This was my point - that politics has...

Not to mention that we wouldn't have Rugby League if not for politics and sport combining: Rugby Football History

Kae-o...Kae-o Kaeo come on and they'll want to go home! ;)

    You're a "true" Scotsman then.....got it!

    The pride jersey round.

Nah, I just like watching you get your (non-gender specific) knickers in a twist.....wait.....can that happen to a Scotsman!?

Given that you are so upset by the "weaponising of language", should we be discussing your proclivity to use (traditionally) female traits to question the intellect and insult those that you don't agree with?

All good. I think you've done enough to make my point for me ;)

Lol. The problem to which you stated that, as a society, we should so something. Lol it was only a couple of posts ago: So it feels like you were just posting this to say "sure, something should be done" so you could then end the conversation and maybe don't really think there is an underlying...

No, and I've stated that it was far worse than a "good approach" multiple times. The club were the main one's at fault here IMO. I was commenting on your post: So...I'll throw it back to you ;) Or is there not a problem (that the pride round was presumably attempting to address?)

    The pride jersey round.

That's the thing though....you seem to think yourself qualified to condemn one idea (after giving it an significant amount of thought) but to think of anything else, even as a thought experiment is too hard? It kind of gives the impression that you have a preference on the outcome here. (and...

    What's the something then?

    The pride jersey round.

I'm not sure if you're attempting trivializing the issue as the players saw it or highlight that those wanting to implementing the idea were likely looking at things from a fairly privileged position - one that is one not exposed to or affected by religious dogma or family pressure.

Not intended to be divisive. But, had they put any thought (and consultation) into it they would have quickly seen the problems it could create. The AFLW have one player not want to participate and it's still giving them headaches. 'You can't pick and choose inclusion': AFL on delicate balance...

    The pride jersey round.

100% agree. Personally, what I would like to see is for the NRL and it's clubs to encourage players and staff to show support for inclusion. How good would it be for a player to wear rainbow socks or armband every round or for coaches to sit in the box proudly wearing a pride badge...and without...

No. They didn't want to be seen as supporting homosexuality. There is a difference

    The pride jersey round.

Homophobia perpetuated by individuals who are 100% responsible for their beliefs and free from any external influence. Or homophobia perpetuated by a bigoted and hateful belief system that is tied to the same individuals' culture and identity?

    The pride jersey round.

Sure...and I'd agree. I don't think we are struggling for enough new fans to replace the old and the fanbase is still growing without these (woke?) initiatives. But I do think those running the game don't just want it to survive the want it BIGGER than ever and there are plenty involved at clubs...

    The pride jersey round.

And I'm sure the game seemed really appealing to you then........45 years ago!? I imagine that the tastes of teenagers has changed a bit since then, no? There also wasn't the same level of money attached to games that exists today. There's more pressure than ever to be bigger than ever (or get...
