Some years other members donate stuff (well I did once but everyone laughed at the 'junk' so I don't do it anymore) - actually I won it that year so lol at everyone.

The tipping comp is mostly designed to help fund the site, we have usually just given a first prize away, winner takes all. I could lower the amount for first place and give a portion to 2nd and 3rd but it just doesn't make enough money for the site to make it possible to expand the prize pool.
The funds raised from the tipping comp give us a few months of hosting. We then have to add licenses, backup servers etc to the costs and that coupled with advertising give us enough to scrape through. My time for the site and for the tools (cross forum chat, Game Day Thread) I write for our friend sites is free and I don't get to draw any money from the site.

As professional as I believe the site looks (hahaha) it is just run and operated by humble old me, a 40-something father of 5, its a labor of passion rather than profit, although I have a few dreams and I would probably entertain selling the site to fund them, I think I would feel lost without it
