windows cannot find the '(null)' What does this mean?

I keep getting the above message. everytime i try to use windows update or access any site on my favourites and more importantly my antivrus updates.
I tried system restore, but it didnt work.

Stick the phrase in any search engine and have a look at the answers (like the rest of us do).

I went to a net cafe in manly this morning as internet explorer was blocking me from searching at home. took 2 hours to find some info on fixing my pc. last week i downloaded the New IE7 beta, but it wouldnt function properly, so i uninstalled it.. but you also need to uninstall a file in the registry as well. now its working find.

IE7. That's MS's attempt to do what Firefox and Opera have been doing for years, but still keeping the insecurities, right? :)
