@proshenks: BREAKING NEWS: The $10,000 fine for Geoff Toovey's post-Souths blow-up stands. Sea Eagles appeal against breach notice unsuccessful #NRL

2V now has to come out and screech CONSPIRACY - that way he will be cleared :mad:

Although, watching Greenturd's credibility decay by the day, is worth $10k :p

If the Cowgirls don't cop the same, it's a joke.

But you can bet nothing will happen to JT the koala.

And he blatantly came out and said the NRL were cheats. No veiled suggestions or minced words. "You's are cheats"

They must fine Thurston and Henry now. If they don't it will show up their pro-Queensland bias.... ;-p

All Toovs called for is an investigation. Isn't that about to happen? Why pay a fine for asking for something the NRL are about to do. Seems wacky to me.

The NRL are bringing themselves into disrepute.

So now they are going to say, JT was ok but 2V was not?

This will blow up!

I call on Bones to take over the Talkin Sport airways this week and call for Greenturds nuts! Or should we get Burgess, he is more qualified?

So for discussion sake here below is the relevant part of the NRL Code of Conduct which forms the governing rules in this instance.

"Public Comment
31. (1) No Club or person bound by this Code shall comment adversely on, or with
respect to:
(a) The ARLC;
(b) The NRL;
(c) An officer or employee of the ARLC or the NRL (including the Chief
Executive Officer and the Salary Cap Auditor);
(d) The NRL Competition;
(e) The National Youth Competition;
(f) The Related Competitions;
(g) The Representative Competitions;
(h) The Other Competitions;
(i) A Club;
(j) The performance of a Match Official; or
(k) Any matter which has been, is, or is likely to be, the subject of a
proceeding before the ARLC, the NRL Judiciary, the Match Review
Committee, the Anti-Doping Tribunal, the Salary Cap Review Committee,
the NRL Appeals Committee or any other committee or tribunal
established by the ARLC or the NRL;
on the Internet or on a public occasion.
(2) For the purposes of sub-Rule (1), “comment adversely” means to make any
comment, whether orally or in writing, or to perform any action that is or might:
(a) Be detrimental to;
(b) Bring into disrepute;
(c) Be inconsistent with;
(d) Be contrary to; and/or
(e) Be prejudicial to;
the best interests, image or welfare of the ARLC, the NRL Competition, the National Youth Competition, the Related Competitions, the Representative Competitions, the Clubs or the Game"

You cant have Toovey fined and not Thurston, otherwise the ARLC will seriously lose credibility on this issue.

A strict interpretation would most definitely have both 2V & Thurston in breach.

SMH story today seems to say Matai try should have been given by the NRL own's rules.

This year's edition of the NRL's Rugby League Laws of the Game, International Level with Notes on the Laws of the NRL Telstra Premiership makes this clear.

A footnote on page 12 under the subheading ''Referee unsighted'', reads: ''The referee should not disallow a try because he was not in a position to see the grounding of the ball.''

Referee Shayne Hayne was unsighted when he made a ruling against the Storm's Sisa Waqa who grounded the ball in the Rabbitohs' in-goal in Friday's semi-final.

Hayne's no-try signal to the video referees gave the men in the box no room to move because the video evidence was inconclusive.

The rules clearly obligate Hayne to signal a try immediately, or indicate to the video referees ''we have a try'' and allow them to make further judgment, which, in the Waqa case, would have resulted in a try.

It was a cruel ruling at a time the Storm needed to get back into the game, but made more inexcusable because it happened only a month earlier.

Manly's Steve Matai was denied a try in almost identical circumstances in a round 23 match. This was the game after which Sea Eagles coach Geoff Toovey went ballistic and was fined by the NRL.
A month has passed and the mistake has been duplicated.

Chip and Chase said:
C'mon, there needs to be an investigation.

NRL Code of Conduct.

Investigations
44. In any case, and at any time, the Chief Executive Officer may:
(1) Investigate a Player or Club Official for a breach of a provision of this Code;
(2) Appoint a person or persons to investigate a Player or Club Official for a breach
of a provision of this Code;
(3) Form a panel to consider the findings of any investigation and, in turn, receive
recommendations from that panel regarding the matter; and
(4) If the Chief Executive Officer, in his absolute discretion, considers it appropriate,
act on recommendations from the panel regarding a Player or Club Official
regarding any suspected breach of a provision of this Code.
Where a Club Also Acts
45. (1) Where a breach of a provision of this Code involving a Player or Club Official
has occurred, the Chief Executive Officer may, subject to Rule 47, proceed
against that Player or Club Official pursuant to Part 2 of the NRL Rules unless
he forms the view, in his absolute discretion, that the Player or Club Official has
already been sufficiently punished by action taken against that Player or Club
Official for the same conduct by his Club.
(2) To remove any doubt, nothing in this Code prevents the Chief Executive Officer
from investigating, causing to be investigated or proceeding against a Player or
Club Official for a breach of a provision of this Code where, in relation to the
same conduct, the Club with which that Player or Club Official is associated has
already taken action or imposed a punishment against that Player or Club
Official.

As Terry Kennedy said on BSB this morning, Toovey was fined when he didn't actually question the integrity of the officials. He did question their competency, but not their integrity. What Thurston, Henry and just about anyone else with a Cowboys shirt that can find a microphone has done, has accused the NRL of corruption. If that doesn't bring massive fines, I don't what does.

every step the nrl take at the moment they are making themselves look like idiots, seriously what is their problem. they would be better off saying nothing rather than continuously putting their foot in their mouths

Andrew Webster
CHIEF SPORTS WRITER, THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

IF the ARL Commission was facing its greatest test of character over the future of Todd Greenberg, it is not unreasonable to claim that Greenberg is already facing his greatest test as head of football when it comes to Neil Henry and Johnathan Thurston.

If the claims from the Cowboys coach and captain that their side was the victim of a directive from above to ensure Sydney teams played in the grand final are not a clear case of bringing the game into disrepute, what is?

Greenberg said on Sunday that Henry's accusations did not warrant sanction for his comments at the post-match press conference.

The Cowboys are hurting because of the seventh-tackle try awarded to the Sharks in the elimination final at Allianz Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

But should a refereeing blunder empower a coach and captain to make scattergun accusations with impunity? That's a dangerous test of the NRL's credibility.

It also puts the $10,000 fine Geoff Toovey received for his angry press conference following the Souths match into sharp perspective. He questioned their ability, not integrity - and was still slugged.

The anger from Henry, Thurston and all of North Queensland is understandable after the calamity they have suffered for two consecutive years.

When the Cowboys received some similarly appalling decisions against Manly a year ago, not least the “Hand of Foz” incident, the Sydney media was as loud as its Queensland counterparts, calling for then-referees bosses Bill Harrigan and Stuart Raper to be sacked.
In the end, they were.

Now Greenberg faces a significant test of his powers.

He has been quick to gag and threaten coaches and players from commenting on any incident placed on report before the match review committee or judiciary has passed their verdicts.

But Henry and Thurston have brazenly questioned the integrity of the referees and the NRL amid their rage of an early finals exit.

The NRL cannot be afraid to come down hard on them just because the referees made the blunder in the first place.

From the lurker

Toovey wasn't showing raw emotion?
Geoff Toovey has every right to ask the NRL why he had to pay a $10k fine for his recent rant while Neil Henry and Johnathan Thurston escape scot free after declaring there is a conspiracy to have two Sydney teams play in the grand final. "He spoke from the heart. He showed raw emotion," NRL head of football Todd Greenberg said in explaining why the Cowboys coach wasn't censured. So Toovey wasn't speaking from the heart and showing raw emotion?

The refusal to admit the Toovey fine was disproportionate is starting to look like Greenberg's version of Gallop suspending Brett Stewart for 4 weeks. He'll never admit he was wrong even when the evidence is overwhelming.
