I don't pay a lot of attention to opposition teams when it comes to injuries so I might be a harsh judge.
Manly seem terrible at managing injured players. We seem to be the only team that leaves blokes that can hardly walk or support their own arm, on the field. It's been happening for years. I remember us leaving Foz out there.
We all see players get leg/foot injuries and walk them off. Our players are left out there hobbling or with hanging arms.
Why does our club do this?
Got to say Tom's got courage. Played on one leg and never gave up.

As long as everyone hear calling for him to be rested also commits to stop bitching and moaning when we lose, no problem. If you have a look at our injuries - matai, Lyon, DCE, Lawrence, as well as those we have previously lost for extended periods - Stewart, buhrer, jake, tafua - it's an injury toll that would cruel most clubs. Then you throw in the fact we are rebuilding, an ageing roster in transition, new coach, absolutely criminal scheduling - what do people expect? I still believe we have a core there that will develop into our next finals side, and I also think people are writing off Trent too easily. I can guarantee you can go back on these boards to the early hasler days and people were writing him off in just the same way. We just need to keep building the roster around the core we have, discard the misses like Lewis brown, shaft Cartwright who i really dislike, get a good run on the injury front and get a fair shake on scheduling next year without Monday night, 5 day turnarounds, and then let's see where we are. And while I'm at it, I can't believe some of the Nuffies on here putting crap on a club legend like bob Fulton. Fair dinkum.
I feel the same mate. Yeah im disappointed we keep losing but last night we had both centres out, half back, 5/8, 2 props and playing busted was turbo and wright plus the injuries we sustained during the match. Its been a horrible year but there are still a good group of core players we can build on.

I just hope we can recruit some more quality young players and build for the coming years. Might be still another couple until we are right up the top again but so be it.

Look at Penrith their plan is starting to come together look out for them as they will be at the top for a while the way they have approached their recruiting. Young halfs in cleary and te martin. Hiku. Merrin and tamou in forwards plus the young bull james fisher harris to go with cartright and other exciting young players.

Manly should do the same . We already have tom jake parcell dce marty dylan as a good core. Need recruit smartly some quality young fowards and backs like bowen from north qld nelson asofa solomona meehan that young wrecking ball esan marsters plus we have young wright coming through and a few other promising juniors.

Might not win the comp next year but you keep a core group together and build a new culture and young competitive team that want to play for each other. That takes time.

I agree. This season is very close to being over.

I dont see the point of risking tom anymore. He is an amazing player so get him the support he needs to fix his ankle.

If we're not careful then we are going to lose Tom to injury sooner rather than later. The way he was limping last night it looks like a matter of when and not if.

You know, we do have a very good group of players with a good mix of youth and experience. Jake, Tom, Parcell, Taupau, DCE, Lussick, Walker, Knight and even Jorge and Koroisau. That is a pretty good starting platform. We just have to recruit wisely and hope that players like Tom Wright, Nico Hynes etc develop as expected.

Other than Killer retiring, I think those whose heads will be on the chopping block at the end of this year might be (of those who have played first grade this year):

Brett Stewart, Blake Leary, Pita Godinet, Josh Starling, Brenton Lawrence, Feleti Mateo, Brayden Wiliame, Matthew Wright, Jamie Buhrer, Nathan Green. Lewis Brown should probably be on that list, but I doubt he will be for some reason.

It actually pains me to have Snake on that list because he's a champion who deserves to go out on his own terms and on the ultimate high with a premiership. But unfortunately his body and enthusiasm are just about gone. If it was just about anyone else other than Snake, Tom would have been our fullback by now because Snake's form has been shocking to say the least.

Depending on his neck surgery and recovery I think Steve Matai has at least one, maybe two more good years in him. Luckily he is one who (touch wood) has never really had leg problems. And I think with his 3 year contract, the Big Giant Head will also be safe.

I have been very critical of BA playing players when injured, especially young players (Moeroa) it's a disgrace to risk Toms longevity in the game in a season that is well and truely over.
It was clear too see the game plan for the Titans game, "give it to Tom" no plan b or C.

Seriously, WTF are the club trying to do to this kid. He is barely out of U20's (probably should still be there developing for long term benefit) and hobbling around the field like a cripple.
Every tackle he winces in pain...yet he is still our best backline player!!!

The club is becoming a laughing stock. We are weak and lack any real direction or game plan.

Without those Turbo boys, really I shudder to think. Disgraceful

Give him his operation and let him mend for next year. This is madness

Well said. This is the 'genius' of Barrett and that idiotic bearded hipster Ferris at it again. He is one leg, playing in arguably the toughest competition in world sport. The current Manly coaching staff are degenerate.

What if it's Tom's decision to play.

Perhaps medical advice is it can't get any worse and will only take a few months to fix.

Who knows for sure but hey its another excuse to lynch TB.

Mate as much as I'm unsure about our S and C set up, you can't put blame on putting off or delaying surgery on Ferris, it would come down to the club doctor and external specialists who would advise the club of the best course of action to take with any individual player and their injuries. Nothing to do with S and C.

Yep. You can always trust a nineteen year old to know what's best for the future.
I think most who agree that he should have an operation now are those who are concerned for the kid's welfare.
Opinions about TB are another whole category.

No I am happy to lay it on them. The are around him more than others. They know his condition and age.

Great post mate. 100% correct on all fronts. There are a lot of fair weather supporters around sticking the knife into Barrett, bozo etc. The same supporters will jump back on the bandwagon backslapping Barrett when we turn it around. We need to stick solid and show a little faith.
