I agree with RiverEagle, this is not a time to overreact, Manly had a lot of things go against them today, just little things, that prevented the team from gaining any momentum.
Hence the reason I have also not mentioned Starling or Kingy.

This post is about the last 4 or 5 weeks where I have noticed some players playing in a way not worthy of a MANLY jumper and they are in the title.

So let me get to it:

T-Red.
Dude, you look like you are about to attend a prom when you come on, and, unfortunately, still look like you are about to attend a prom when you come off. I'm sorry but this guy is not playing with Manly style aggression and is playing like he is a star already. You are not a star, you are playing like rubbish. Fix your attitude, play for your jumper. I'm starting to hate this guy.

Hassan
Rated this guy last year. Played angry and was an able replacement for Lussick who also played with great aggression. But what is it with him this year?. Looks way too skinny, plays with NO passion and is just absolute rubbish. A reserve grader at best. FIX your attitude. Some of his runs today were pathetic.

Hiku
Another one, I'm lost. Has totally mailed it in the last 4 or 5 weeks. No creativity, no aggression. Just nothing. Maybe he is content now with the contract signed, maybe he is out of position. FIGURE IT OUT and start playing like you are wearing a Manly jumper not a knights or raiders jumper. Rubbish!!

You guys need to watch tapes of the guys who filled your roles in recent years - let's see - Joe G (come back we need you!), Fa'aoso, even Mauro. Watch their tapes and see Manly passion even off the bench.

I wish these guys could read this and take an angry pill and prove me wrong. I'm just a supporter.

Hasson is very average. Not 1st grade standard.

TRed is good off the bench and I don't think he's gone to bad with very limited opportunity this year.

Hiku is not a winger. Centre or fullback is his go, hasn't got the pace to play wing.

Agreed that Hiku isn't a winger, but I don't think he's going to be a future first choice centre either. For mine he'll end up at fullback once Snake retires. That's where I've seen him play his best footy.

I'm disappointed with T-Reds workrate. It wasn't that long ago that a lot of Manly supporters were ranking him higher than Buhrer but I never have. To be honest I think he is really fortunate to be in our 17. He has a reputation that some of our other forwards don't have and he's not living up to it atm.

Hasson I've been really disappointed with so far this year. He seemed to show really good glimpses in limited minutes last year, but the assumption was he would make more of that in 2014 but if anything he has gone backwards with what he's offered on the park this season as opposed to last.

Hiku is interesting. He has struggled with elements of wing play but I can live with that a bit, but the long term plan for him is what I'd like to hear from Tooves. We have 2 excellent young fullbacks in Gutherson & Trbojevic who both could be stars so is Hiku the long term replacement for Snake? I'm not so sure. I think he's likely to be groomed as a centre because Killer and Matai are both only a few years away from retiring and it would be great not to have to replace both starters from outside the club.

To be fair to T-red, he has to keep himself looking good for all his tommy talks segments.

Hasson is a mystery to me, he's big and fast, I dunno why he runs like a custard pie at a brick wall.

I'm also not sure why cheyse blair isn't used more on the wing. He seems pretty good and has some mongrel in him. If hiku isn't a winger then.......

Are we using hiku because we just spent the cash on re-signing him and better to play him out of position than not at all? (I like hiku fyi).

If so why did we buy cheyse? Just so another team doesn't have to pay him to run around in reserves?

Hiku may well be seen as a long term centre replacement for either Killer or Skivy, but I still think he plays his best football at the back. To me he seems a bit lost both on the wing and in the centres. Yesterday he should have been ok on the wing as like us the Donkeys don't have the quickest wingers, but it didn't work out well. What the long term plans for him, Gutherson or Trbojevic are I'm not privy to obviously so it will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Agreed that T-Red has been disappointing, but even in a depleted pack he doesn't seem to be getting a lot of opportunities, and the same goes for Hasson.

The big improver this year has been Jamie Buhrer. He has shown that while he's not Gifty, we'll have a talented ball running lock for a few years to come.....provided we re-sign him.

I don't think Peta's best spot is on the wing.
He was found out several times in D, and he's just not fast enough.

TRed and Hasson especially have had precious little game time all year (and this was round 12)

Hasson did fire up once or twice; was even penalized backing the Kingdog.

I think susan (and a few others) are right in the importance of Choc and Gift to our pack.

And I'd obviously add Cherry to the mix.

Just not quite time to panic or crucify anyone yet.

Peta is not a winger and it is now probably the most specialist position in a team now outside the halves.Utility off the bench please!!!We don't use our 17th man anyway.

Hasson and T-red don't make our full strength 17, so they actually are reserve graders. But injuries happen and you have to bring someone up. TBH, I've never seen much from Hasson that excites me. T-Red I think is a handy backup. He's had limited game time, and has played out of position a couple of times. Even yesterday it appeared he shifted to centre when Foz came off.

Wasn't Hiku's best game yesterday, but he shown enough previously to justify his place. His best position is fullback, but I think he's an OK winger. I don't like him at centre and hope that's not the long term plan. Gutherson was playing a bit of centre in NSW cup last year, but I didn't see how he went.

Can we add Jorge to this discussion - his running 10 meters, then stopping to chase a forward, was inexcusable

Both Hiku and LJL were in the race to the end, and they started from the opposing wing :dodgy:

Jorge's lack of involvement is a real concern, he has so much power, yet he never hits the line straight. Matai would happily share the tackling duties

Hiku goes Ok. That's it. His market value as an ok fullback, winger or centre is about $150,000. As a utility that can play all three he is worth about $250,000. Which is around what Manly paid for him. And at that he is good value.

But realistically any player that is going to replace snake at fullback is going to be a $600,000 to $700,000 a year player, either home grown or imported. Anybody replacing matai or lyons will be a min of $500,000 a year player.

Hiku is neither, I think he will always be in that mid area between a good player and an OK first grader, he will have his moments and his good games and at a price he will be a valued member of the squad.
