Weird that whenever we play the dragqueens away we always have a whole bunch of players out

Our record on Monday night is terrible. Our record away against Saints is so diabolical it is hard to believe for some reason- given they are not known as St Choke for nothing.

They are no great shakes but generally defend well and if it is an arm wrestle the pinkies will get them home. Manly need to do a Roosters and gap them early or it will be a long night. If skivvy and Snake are out we will struggle, otherwise class should prevail.

Worse case, and Matai is out, I'd like to see Esi Tonga given a run rather than transplanting a back rower into the centres. Always prefer a specialist there and by the sounds of it he played well yesterday

Couldn't agree more Kiwi. The Buhrer experiment was a failure and while Symonds would do better we would be weakening a strength to cover a weakness. That rarely works.

The flip side is the quality of our outside back depth is at best ordinary.Tonga has never really shown anything but he is a specialist and deserves first shot.

And on another note surely Symonds has earned the right to play more than 37 minutes

Tonga looked ok in his debut season, don't know what has gone wrong with him since but I'd like to think our system would lift him like it has Horo and Lawrence etc

We are actually discussing the backrow minutes now in another topic, Watmough, Stewart, Horo and Symonds are all 80min capable players, and that's without even mentioning Buhrer

I reckon last week there would have been a fair few people contemplate the bench lineup to include Gower and one of Symonds/Horo/Gift. (excluding Buhrer)

We can only wonder what difference that might have made to the result.

I don't think Esi will get the call up if Steve is out. Just doesn't seem to be high up the pecking order yet.

Thoughts on trying Gutherson at Fullback or Centre if Snake or Skivi are out? Had a great performance in the 20's State of Origin the other night.

We can have Horo play above his weight and cover up the middle . His short offloads out the back can create 2nd phase play and he can play long minutes. T Red can then play wide on the left hand side running into gaps feeding from Foran. I don't expect Matai or snake to miss a match.

Now that we know Steve M and Richie F are out , what should the team look like ?? Who comes into the backline ??

Watmough to the centres ? ( westie proceeds to duck for cover with expectant comments sure to come )
