This bloke is one of the SMH Rugby columnists. Interesting take on the silvertail phenomenon:

"I believe it was Roy Masters, when he was coaching Wests, who invented the term ‘Silvertails’ for the Manly RL Club. Bankrolled by Kerry Packer, who was a great mate of Bobby Fulton, Manly RL bought most of Wests stars in a spectacular grab and heist. So Roy, a master of the language, cranked up the anti-Manly rhetoric which was gleefully picked up by Manly’s opponents and by the RL media.
It was always nonsense. Who is less of a Silvertail than Des Hasler, or Tom Keneally, Manly’s great supporter who helped Hasler with his rugbiography?"

Can you believe that Roy taught me Geography in Year 7 until he left for Penrith to coach the Under 23s there? (in the country it was!!)
