RLW this morning announced a team of players with animal nicknames....though some they are stretching a bit.

5 of the 17 are Manly players.

    http://rugbyleagueweek.com.au/the-ultimate-animal-17/

    FB - Graham "Wombat" Eadie
    WG - Mat "Rat" Rogers
    CE - Jamie Lyon
CE - Graham "The Penguin" Bradley
WG - Adam "Mad Dog" MacDougall
    FE - Brett Finch
    HB - Andrew "Joey" Johns
    PR - Steve Roach
    HK - Mark "Piggy" Riddell
    PR - Rex "Moose" Mossop
    SR - Steve "Beaver" Menzies

SR - Gordon "Raging Bull" Tallis
    LK - Johnny "Chook" Raper

Res - Bob "The Bear" O'Reilly, Michael "Horse" Weyman, Barry "Bunny" Reilly, David "Mule" Hosking

Missing the cut were the likes of Michael "The Crow" Cronin, Mal "Chicken George" Meninga, Wally "Gator" Lewis and Brett "Snake" Stewart. How Killer, Finch and Blocker Roach made the cut with their nicknames I'll never know.

    Killer -> lion

Not animals but still fauna -
    Finch is a bird
    Roach is a cockroach

I still think the staff at RLW have been smoking a bit of the green stuff lately.

    Finch in front of Lewis?
Bradley in front of Cronin or Meninga?

They are going by nicknames. Steve Roach's nickname is Blocker. It shouldn't matter that he played for the Tigers, Kangaroos or Cockroaches.

I see and accept your point on Killer though.

    My team would have been:

Eadie, Rogers, Lyon, Cronin, Stewart, Lewis, Johns, O'Reilly, Riddell, Mossop, Menzies, Tallis, Raper. Res - Meninga, Weyman, Reilly, Hosking.

Artistic license there. MacDougall can pi$$ off and Snake can play on the wing.

Great to see Graham Eadie making a team. Fantastic goal kicker, the safest under a bomb I ever saw and on of the hardest running and toughest fullback I ever saw.
Easily the best fullback of all time.

Yep, but I meant as an exercise. There is a whole team of real animals out there. I can even do a full team of birds.

Rlw has no imagination and little humour.

    Why not include Aaron Moule
(mussel), Shane Muspratt (the muskrat) or Gene Ngamu (gnu) for instance.

With some of the things RLW has come out with this year I am starting to think that their staff writers are out smoking some green stuff when on their breaks......
