game is this afternoon Bradza.

Pretty miserable up here, not raining atm but it is a cold wet day for those attending.

Wyong won 26-10. Magnus must have run riot.

How bad are our NSW cup side. They must now be coming last.

Willo is the new max Krillich of coaching

I thought at the beginning of the year with the amount of new blood coming into the club that our U20 and NSW Cup sides would move off the bottom and maybe compete for final 8 positions. They're worse. What of all these 'talented' players coming into the sides. I'd say for every top player we secured like Lawrence, Moro, Symons, Hiku, Sao and Chee-Kan, we also bought another two or three turkeys to replace players who left who were probably better.

I think Manly needs a serious rethink about its recruitment for '14. Maybe, after disposing of the turkeys, we should be recruiting less in number but more in quality. Sydney City seem to do it well every year and their lower grades are consistently competitive. And they dont even have a local junior resource to rely on.

Apart from this year how is that working for the roosters? In terms of results in first grade

In fact ISZ Sydney City in terms of reaching grand finals since 2000 has been the equal most successful with Melbourne and two of Melbournes titles were taken from them. Its just that SC only won one of those matches.

Since 2000, Sydney City has contested the 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2010 grandfinals. They only won the 2002 title. They have also won the Premier League (equiv NSW Cup) in 2004, the Jersey Flegg in 2002 and 2004 and the SG ball Cup in 2008 and 2010. makes them the most consistently successful side since 2000, despite only winning one premiership.

Manly on the other hand have played in three grandfinals since 2000, winning in 2008 and 2011 and losing in 2007. They have not won a reserve or junior comp since 1988. And at present Sydney City look strong odds of contesting this years GF with Souths at this stage

So how do you gauge ongoing success?

I agree with lsz

Manly have won 2 premierships since 2000. The roosters have not.

You can't argue with that.

Also since 2005 Manly have featured in every finals series. The Roosters have only made the finals 2 out of the 8 series within the same timeframe. They also have the shame of finishing 2nd last in 2006 (just 2 years after a grand final appearance) and last in 2009. They wouldn't the club I would use as a model for success.

Don't forget that the injuries/suspension issues in 1st grade also take the talent out of the NSW Cup side along with their own injuries

we are playing with less than half our original NSW cup team at the moment due to these circumstances that KE is talking about.

I am talking about recent success - 2010 was a streaky run to the final (based on a season of a lifetime with Todd C)

Melbourne do not even have a nsw cup team...throughout the years they have had a partnership with a number of different clubs (is it the sharks these days?)

From memory in the mid 90's we went a year or two without winning a game in reserve grade? It seems we have always had a philosophy of developing certain players in the lower grades rather that a winning team (the 20's minor prem team of a few years ago apart)

Not sure you can fault our recruitment
