Push for Saturday night free-to-air NRL games

ABC  use to have a saturday game in the early to late 90`s, when austar was called galaxy lol.. for all you ppl with a memory.. ;D..

I know people aren't that happpy with CH9 and they are far from perfect but when you compare how they do live sport, I think they crap over most of the competition.  Compare the pre-game and post game stuff 9 do with friday night footy and compare with ch7s AFL stuff.  CH7 production values at times are very amateur hour.  9s footy coverage in terms of camera work, angles etc is excellent at times their commentators miss the mark but thats personal opinion and we can be just as biased if they say something bad about the Sea Eagles.

I'm happy with the current arrangement but just share around the monday night football side of it.  Its too tough on teams backing up and to have some teams play a lot more than others just isn't fair.

ABC won't get a game, they won't pay for it and the NRL want money and LOTS of it.

TBH can't see the format changing too much.....BUT...if you think Packer bought Ten for anything else other than a gigantic pitch for NRL then you need to think again.

  Does it occur to you he has bought Channel 10 so they *won't* bid, meaning the Pay TV rights won't cost him as much?

I figure he bought Ten so he could control the bidding process, possibly splitting the rights, but by having control of both fox and ten he wouldn't have to get involved in a bidding war.

I'm talking more from a commentary point of view rather then how many ads etc, I agree thats of course very annoying.

I thought Packer sold out of 9 etc a few years ago when he made his big push into the casinos and so on in Macau?

But am far from certain.

Everyone assumes Packers investment into 10 is an indication he will dump one HD to favour his Fox investment but money is made on RL FTA aswell as Pay TV.

His move (now in conjuction with Lachlan) makes good sense, even if only for the fallback measure of diversification. But this move is strategic. Nothing surer. : JATZ
