Hayne would have made a massive difference. The only time I noticed we had wingers or centres was when merrit let try after try after try in.

I was going to post something similar:

If merritt wants to play in the forwards so much....let him bulk up.

Then I saw the coach friggen asked him to do it!

...The Maroons targeted Merritt by sending plenty of ball down his side of the field, Daley admitting it was his coaching decision for the winger to come off his edge in defence which allowed Darius Boyd plenty of room to move out wide.

And you still look like a moron when you rush in and miss the tackle, or the ball has already been passed on.

*stamp* Never to play origin again.

A wingers defence is normally decided by his centre, so I'm guessing the gameplan would have been that they expected Inglis to see a ****load more ball, so Morris would jam in on him and Merritt would have to follow. The plan is fine if the players are good enough for it, Merritt wasn't though.

We use a similar thing out wide this season, Lyon is charging in to make tackles a lot and most of the time we are good enough to cover it
The issue is that a lot of the time morris was left standing there whilst Merrit jammed in. It was pointless and poorly executed.

Quite simple really, just stay on your man, out wide and cover from the inside, not the outside.

I'd make three changes, Tamou for Woods, Grant for Reynolds, Hayne for Merritt. Tamou and Hayne would have been there if not for injury and suspension, and I think Grant comes in now he's back playing.

I think the pressure is now on the NSW fans. They need to pack the stadium and howl at the refs all night long in the next game. 51 000 people there last night and Thurston was revving the crowd up during Qld drop outs to lift the players. If the Blues supporters turn up in force and get behind their side when they need it......it may be enough to get them over the line.

Throw Hayne back in, Tamou into the mix and let this group fight for it in game 3. No hope at all making a heap of key changes

Can't understand why the Morrises are on that radar ?

Agreed on all counts.

Totally agree, no need for mass changes, its 1 all

I believe it is already a sell out

Here's one for you..........Idris for Merritt. I think the recipe on Inglis' side is size. He hates being belted by blokes as big as him like Blake Ferguson. Not a huge Idris fan but is going better than when he last played origin and he's BIGGG. Hayne for Dugan. And for all you dremweavers out there "that is why Merritt has never gotten a run before"

First thing NSW needs to do is bribe the refs like Qld did. That first 20 minutes wasn't even subtle robbery; it was blatant. Qld didn't need any help, they were far superior, but squaring the series was obviously the aim of the NRL.
I agree that Hayne and Tamous should come back, and don;t mind the idea of Idris. I think if we are going to win it will be through bulk and power. Therefore, I'm also throwing in Sutton - a big 5/8. That means we'd be without a kicker, or does Dugan kick?

I'd still punt Hoffman. Just don't think he offers much more than running the one line. I would have started with Choc. He is proven to have the ability to play 80 minutes at that level and if anything I think he is a better starter then coming off the bench. He is like a metronome, he gets into a rhythm and then keeps on ticking over. When he comes off the bench its like he tries too hard to make an impact and if anything he is more likely to make mistakes. He is also much better at harrassing playmakers and getting up off the line, Cronk and JT had all the time in the world to put their kicks on and it just put NSW on the backfoot from the get go.

Agree with everything except for Hayne he needs to be NSW fullback.
Reynolds should never be in the team we need another front rower.
Drop Merritt and And Dugan and put Idris in Merritt's position to cover GI.
Dugan didn't play that bad but he ain't no Hayne.

What is everyone seeing in Idris to make him an Origin winger ? Idris' best shot would be as a bench man to add some punch out on the fringes

Personally I think he would be a mile out of his depth. Either go specialist in Uate or shift Dugan if it has to be someone out of position

Hoffman is hugely over rated. He runs like he's stuck in quicksand. Rubbish

I'm not sure about Idris on the wing as opposed to the centres, but he has improved every element of his game 10 fold this season. As for picking a specialist winger, its an argument people used for years when they complained about centres geting picked on the wing. Theory being defending on the wing is so different than the centres that you have to be a specialist to do it properly. Not a bad argument, but Uates and Merritts decision making in origin doesn't make it a lock that its the way to go.
