I can't help wondering where he best fits in the team. Repeatedly on here I read he's not a (take your pick) winger, centre, fullback.
What is he? (yep, unintentionally opening the door for Hiku slander)
How can he best be used?

That is a question I keep scratching my head with also. I don't understand why so many here state he will slot straight into centre once Killer or Skivvy leave. Why? What has he shown that fits the criteria? I have yet to see some 'skillful passing' to his winger - something all centre's need to have.

His best was covering for B.S (fullback) with a different style (higher workrate).

For now though, he doesn't seem to match it with opposition wingers or centres.

At this stage of his career, he plays better at fullback because of the open space and more one on one nature of the defense. At the moment though, we need him to play the harder position of centre but he hasn't got his head around how to do it effectively.

He can play wing and when everyone's fit, that's probably where he'll play unless Killer moves into the #6. He's a very skillful player but we won't get the best out of him until he settles into 1 position.

fullback is his best position, has represented NZ playing there as well, then centre

Hiku seems to be the unsolvable riddle. And I cant solve it. Where does he play?

Fullback to me seems his most suited position. But he won't get there with Snake there and then we have probably 2 others (Gutho and tommy turbo) in line in front of him. I think they both offer more X factor.
Wing? Seems to get terribly caught out there.
Centre? Not a great passer. Although doesn't seem a prerequisite these days for centre, look at Michael Jennings.
5/8? Again not enough ball playing. And would he handle 20 plus tackles per game?

Like I said fullback is to me his best but I can't see him getting it.

He's played like 6 games at centre and imo has shown promise. No, he's not a premier centre of the league but he could be, he has the size, smarts and speed suited for a centre, at least I think so.

For the team, centre is his best position

He is a very good centre. Not a great winger except when having to score in the corner.

He's only 22 guys cut him a bit of slack. Matai was no better at his age and hiku has shown patches of brilliance. He will play centre. Let him settle in to it for a while before criticising him far out...

Not in our best 17 on current form. He is slow and a weak defender. Best fullback in nz but 4th best in our team. He fills the utility role for the backline that is his only value. I would shop him around for next season and free up money for foran. Gutho can play centre next year. Anyone know how Berryman is going massive wraps on him at broncos.

Depends on what his clauses are in his contract if he is the next fullback. The club is certainly not short on fullbacks

Hiku isn't a winger. Yeah he plays ok there and knows his way to the line, but defensively he's all at sea, though I am starting to suspect that the Manly wingers problem is the structure of the players inside of them.

For mine he is a fullback who is also a good at centre and will get better there once he learns to pass to support players at the right time. Last week he didn't use Tom on his outside at all and last night at one point he should have passed but waited until Tom was going to go nowhere but into touch before giving him the ball. If he had passed it 10 metres earlier Tom was a chance.

It seems our teams current crop is made up of young talent who are still developing, or specialists who are getting on with age and injuries. The only exception being our halves who are meant to be at their peaks presently...
