Just cannot understand why this thread, so new in its content, wasn't just part of the 'Keiran Forum', which really needs some TLC, cause it aint big enough. ;)

Can we afford to pay these guys one million each??

1/3 of your cap on two players, doubtful unless we can get some 3rd party deals, and even so that can only lighten the load a bit.

Sorry but I can't see both being there in 2016.

Yep... I think a mod should merge this into the Kieran Forum thread.

I would think there will be some back ending or stepped increases considering the cap is going to go up to over 7 mill by 2017

Nevertheless the same for all clubs, so I say again can we afford to spend a third of our cap on two players??

I think Cherry will stay, he's got more reasons to, Fozzie on the other hand far less......I'd be very surprised if he's not a Warrior in 2016, I think Watson let it out of the bag last weekend, in fact I'd suggest the deals been done already.

Who seriously thinks any player is worth $1mil under a Cap? Perhaps with 3rd parties included, but I can't see our best in the game being worth more than three-quarters of that.

I'd be stunned if we ever back end a deal again after the trouble back ending deals have done to us. Most if not all clubs are not back ending deals now.

If you are planned i do not see the issue with it

You can be as planned as you like but unforeseen problems arise with back ended deals and that's why clubs are doing a way with them. I'm sure the club never wants to be in a position again of paying a player $300 thou to play against them again.

Teams with a win now attitude will still backend heavily. I prefer what manly is doing now with maintaining a roster that can contend year in year out without handcuffing the future of the club to one or two plays (see the scum and cowgirls)

I would think there is a difference between back ending deals and deferring payments (like what happened with choc) where the player is guaranteed money regardless of their intention to see out a contract

Yeah sure sounds like a deal has just been done, no way Watson was referring to anyone other then Foran. Am I correct that manly still have until November 2015 to get Foran to sign though? I am wondering if he has put 'penn' to paper, so he can come back to aus and say 'show me more money'. Big decision for Toov's and the retention committee. All's I know is the the Bronco's and Souths would find a way with 3rd party deals. Apparently all Gee has to do is say 'I won't talk' and with Dave Smiths being so far up the donkey's arse with friday nights and all, nothing happens.

SEA Eagles chairman Scott Penn has revealed how talks have been held with star five-eighth Kieran Foran about him playing out his whole career at Brookvale.

That came after Warriors Eric Watson made it clear the star Manly five-eighth is very clearly in his club’s sights.

He tweeted on Sunday that the Warriors had already signed the star Manly five-eighth.

An hour later he put out another post which read: “Kieran Foran is on our wishlist but not signed.”

Penn knows Watson and said there was no doubt the Warriors would be interested in Foran as would a number of other clubs..

“I’m sure there are all sorts of tactics going on at the moment,” Penn said.

Foran’s current contract ends next season when he will become hot property..

“We definitely have our work cut out but we have discussed with Kieran for some time our desire to make him a one club player and we are doing everything we can to keep him,” Penn said.

“There is no doubt he is playing terrific football for the Kiwis at the moment and there is a significant link to New Zealand and you understand the desire.

“But we need him as well, we need to retain him.”

Penn said Foran had made it clear he wanted to get through the Four Nations and then have some time away from football after what has been a big year.

“We want to respect that and the last thing he needs is to be hammered with negotiations while he is away — while at the same time acknowledging how much we want to keep him,” Penn said.

“And we are working closely with his manager on that..”
