NSWRL bans Manly junior rep teams!

Have to wonder whether Carr and his Cronies are mere paid servants of News Ltd.  Obviously News Ltd don't want anything faintly resembling a hint of competition in their patch - Brisbane - and now the NSWRL are once again doing their dirty work for them.

So we have petty NSWRL v QRL turf wars taking precedence over the best interests of the game - once again.

I have it on good authority Manly has sent out letters to the kids saying not to worry about these reports and we will be in the junior reps next year and have a NSW Cup side as well.

It will be interesting to know how we will find the players at this late stage to field a competative NSW cup side let alone the money required to fund a side?

who said it had to be competitive Tooks?

$500k would be a lot to spend on a team that isn't competative.  Plus the idea would be to provide us with greater depth for when injuries occur in firsts.

If you have players that are being groomed for FG then it goes that the team would be fairly competative as well.

Common sense says that we would like them to be so.

But in reality if the only reason this team was being fielded was to satisfy the wankers in Phillip St it doesnt really matter if they win or lose.

didnt reserve grade hardly win a game back on year when we won the comp? did anyone give a stuff??

If they announce Max krillich as coach then we will know that they are not serious about being competitive.

Although I do recall cliff lyons name being bandied about as coach if we field a team.

exactly

I think our squad next year will be pretty big with Toyota Cup players coming trough - so we will have around 30 players and look at the local area to prop up the rest.

Clubs are limited to having 25 players in their squad not 30 so it is likely that the other 5 that you mention have already been told that they would be required for next season.

The chances are that they may have already found other clubs to go to.

I suppose that we will know after the board meeting.

If these positions were how Dessie saw it then we would have some obvious imbalances in the squad of 25:
Only 1 Half
Only 1 Five-eighth
Only 1 Hooker
Only 4 Props

And a clear excess with:
6 Second Rowers
4 Wingers

Oh, and it's Gareth Thomas, he's 37-38 years old, and a winger - not happening.

The clubs are not limited to 25 in their full time squads. The top 25 paid are in the audit of the salary cap. Manly had 30 trainign full time last year.

But you are right players have left becuase it was thought they didn't need them because of the smaller no. required to play Qld Cup. Scott Blanch for one.

Surely that would provide all the experience we need in the backline!!  ;)

He only just recently switched codes to Rugby League

Experience in the backline? Whats wrong with Wangman, Killer, Shoulders and Brett? Sure Wolfman, DCE, Foran are a little new but frankly I don't think we lack experience.  4 out of 6 have won a grand final before at this level.
