Wouldn't want to risk DCE in a Mickey Mouse tournament. With Koroisau, John, Moltzen, Mateo and Parcell there are enough playmakers. Perhaps Wright if one more needed. Lussick too slow. Could be good comeback tournament for Lawrence. Would be good to give the new outside backs a run so Green and Goodall also for mine instead of Leary and Satini.

Will be a good opportunity to see how some of the new players go, especially someone like Moltzen who at this point is a complete unknown.

Of the squad I have picked Id captain Mateo, I think he thrives with extra responsibility! Notables I've left out are Buhrer, Lawrence and DCE all obviously coming back from injury. Have heard from so many reliable sources now that Jack Bird is done that I'd be very surprised if we didn't get him!

Is this Tom Wright kid going to be right to play at the start of the year? He won't see NRL any time soon but I might think about throwing a young kid on the wing for the 9's if he has some toe and to get some experience.

It really depends on what type of surgery he had (amazingly there are different types for an ACL injury) and how his rehab goes. Some are able to come back after only 3-4 months months, others are out for a full year. Mostly its around 6 months.

It also depends if there is other damage to the knee other than the ACL.

As for the team, I'm glad that Barrett won't be risking Killer, Snake and Skivy for a mickey mouse tournament because lets fact it, like the old Seven's before them the Nines are fun but not the real thing. I still remember Jack Elsegood picking up a shoulder injury in the 1994 Sevens and going on to have an injury interrupted year where he only scored 4 tries in 17 games (compared to 12 from 22 games in 1993 when he won the Dally M Rookie of the Year and Norwich Rising Star awards). Before that Jack was widely tipped to go on the 1994 Kangaroo Tour but ended up losing out to Wendell Sailor.
