HE once weighed in at 118kg, but Manly prop Josh Perry has declared he is the fittest he's been in five years as he fights to hang on to his NSW jumper.

He is so determined to play Origin that he's prepared to put contract talks on hold. With NRL and UK Super League clubs circling, Perry said his focus was on delivering for Manly and helping the Blues win the series.

Hopefully he does fire up, he had a massive game last season against the Dogs at Brookie just prior to an Origin selection that got him picked, would be nice to see him have that kind of game again

He reminds me of \"fatso\" the wombat off 'A Country Practice'.
he does look like a wombat
but apparently the girls love him.

Im a fan of big ted
id love to see him run riot tommorow nite we need him too

I'm not a fan of the Big Lard, but I want him to fire up on Monday night. We need every one of them to be at their best.

Perry cops a bit on here, but I actually think he has been going alright so far this year. But this sort of stuff is all hot air unless he produces on the field. It'll be good for us if he does.

Average number of runs and average metres so far this year

Whatnow 15.8 runs for 128m = 8.1m/run
Kite 13.6 runs for 111m = 8.16m/run
Rodney 12.2 for 99m = 8.11m/run
Perry 11 for 91.2m = 8.29m/run
King 11.4 for 87.4m = 7.67m/run
Gifty 12.8 for 86m = 6.71m/run
Rose 8 for 82.5m = 10.31m/run
Cross 7.5 for 53.2m = 7.09m/run
Galuvao 6.8 for 48.5m = 7.13m/run

I know there is more to the game than tucking it under the arm, but he isn't dragging the chain in workrate and grunt. According to NRL stats he has no errors and 2 penalties conceded. Compare this to Whatnow with 13 errors and 8 penalties and King with 2 errors and 7 penalties. He is holding his own IMO.

Is that the NSW State of Origin pie eating team that he is trying for?

How many tackles has he missed?

Perry averages 18 (90) tackles and misses an average of 2.2 (11)

Gifty 30.6 (153) and 3.4 (17)
Ballin 34.2 (171) and 2.8 (14)
Whatnow 18.6 (93) and 2.6 (13)
Kite 20 (100) and 2.4 (12)
Rodney 22.2 (111) and 1.8 (9)
King 23.4 (117) and 1.8 (9)
Joe G 13 (52) and 1.5 (6)
Cross 13 (52) and 0.8 (3)
George 8.5 (17) and 0 (0)

They have an ineffective tackle stat as well but everyone is averaging between 1 and 1.4 per match, except Ballin who is averaging 1.8.

So Perry isn't the worst defender either. His defensive workrate might be a bit down on the others, but not a lot. Him, Kite and King play a comparable number of minutes on average (42-45minutes per game).

waits for mata and the haters to come up with another bull**** excuse

i find it ammusing how certain players become targets by our so called expert fans who wouldnt know **** from clay i swear do some of you even watch the games

I think Perry has had a good year so far. Obviously Des thinks he's good enough to hold his spot, after all he is the starting prop ahead of Kite, Cross and co. Not sure about origin though.

As far as i'm concerned, i'd be happy if none of the boys were picked for reps. Leaves them to play club footy.

Interesting to see George hasn't missed one (even if he only played two games) he has a bit of a reputation as a poor defender.

I think the problem with Perry is that everyone knows he's capable of producing better efforts than he did last year and the start of this season. He's a good player but looks a bit too well fed and lazy, hopefully he can improve during the season.
