The way they all lined up for the media presentation resembled people being lined up for an execution.... wonder who was the governor who gave them a repreive?

What horse would that be Wheel?  I think I was on the money with the missing Business Plan request.  And, hey presto, now Mayer will produce the 'Greatest Plan Of All'.  Wonderful if it happens.  Pity that a threat had to be produced for him to get his CEO act together.  Pity also that they have retained Peters.  Useless windbag if you ask me.  Anyway all good, or so it seems.

In fact I believe Grant presented a financial plan at the last meeting not a strategy plan that was requested by thee football club board members that had Brookie at its centre piece.

The horse is Delmege/Toovey for CEO - sounds like Max & you had to eat some humble pie after Des' speech me thinks.

As much as I love Des ,I have to say I'm concerned with him getting so involved with the board.Players play coaches coach and the board should run club.I believe it is dangerous to have the board bow to the wishes of the coach (as much as we all respect Des)I believe mayer should have been resigned last night or sacked.Player managers are not going to deal with a guy who may not be here in 6 weeks, and with so many players maybe leaving we have to be in the player market now.

Board's generally listen to the senior staff of an organisation.  At the end of the day they are involved in the day to day operations so are knowledgable in most matters of the business.  They should listen to Des and take his opinions on board in making important decisions.

Wheel, I guess the point is the management plan is now going to be produced.  If it's an acceptable one, then Saint Grant stays, if not he goes.  Good.  And I think Toovs would make a fine CEO, and will some day soon.  Max and Penn seem to have sorted out their differences and all is well at the wateringhole.  All they have to do is get over the 'old bull, young bull' thing and move on.

Someone had to stand up and say something. Des seems down to earth with no ego issues. He is probably as annoyed as all of us with the inflated egos getting around the place(on and off the field).
Good to see he at least has their respect, publicly anyway.

Des reminded a few people that Manly is a football club rather than a modern version of Home and Away or Days of Our Lives and that the egos of a few pompous fools on a board are second place to what happens on the paddock and in the front office.

Hasler plays peacemaker at Manly

With his club on the brink of imploding, Manly coach Des Hasler took the extraordinary step of pleading to board members to stop fighting as it was affecting the Sea Eagles' NRL premiership defence.

Hasler fronted the Sea Eagles' board meeting on Wednesday night to call for stability as the warring between co-owners Scott Penn and Max Delmege had been one of the many factors in Manly's winless start to 2009.

The well-respected coach spoke only briefly to the seven-member board but it was the catalyst for a peaceful resolution to months of bickering and may have saved CEO Grant Mayer's job.

Mayer was on the verge of being ousted before his contract expires in October because of a falling out with Delmege, but now has the chance to save his position at the next board meeting by presenting a detailed three-year business plan.

Mayer and Penn were in no doubt the coach's plea had resonated with the board members and played a significant part in brokering peace at Manly.

"Des is a stalwart of the club. He has a lot of influence," said chairman Penn.

"Des really just pleaded with the board that he needed stability and the board we all took that on and I think we've come out with a good outcome.

"He just reinforced three losses in a row; it's not where we want to be at the start of the season defending our title.

"We certainly have very big plans for the future and he reiterated that we can't achieve those plans unless we do have stability."

Typically, Hasler played down his role at the meeting.

"I didn't have to say too much at all. They're not silly. They have responded the right way. It's all about stability and direction. It was good," he said.

"Obviously there has been a few distractions but these things have well and truly been ironed out and put to bed. So we move forward."

Mayer had previously announced his intention to stand down at the end of his contract, due to the political in-fighting, but was now hopeful he could continue in the role beyond 2009.

He will present a detailed business plan at the next board meeting where it is hoped they will approve a contract extension.

Mayer is confident the cease fire between the owners will not be broken.

"Enough has been said publicly the last four months to last us 10 years," said Mayer.

"Things will be kept in house for us going forward.

"When you lose three games of football it certainly refocusses your thoughts of where it needs to be.

"No doubt the focus of this board and the entire football club has got to be on the football team."

Penn said Mayer's business plan had appeased the board members and went a long way towards restoring stability at the club.

"There were a few misunderstandings that have been rectified," he said.

"It wasn't becoming an embarrassment but certainly there were differing opinions and it did have to come to a head.

"We did make some significant inroads last night. Everyone was able to air some of the grievances and I think we are now on the same page."

BE seriously dude i appreciate you posting news articles but having them in the forum only is extremely detrimental to the sites growth and search engine indexing

so every bit of news about the same topic you wan't a new topic ?

If it is a new news article I would like it on the front page. It adds to the amont of articles and content we have have, increases the page and link depth

It may seem like overkill it just helps the site overall

Is the new format helping with search indexing Dan, or when/how do you find out?

There's a delay between submitting articles and them appearing on the forum.  Especially in BE's example of a midnight news item.  You also want latest news to be discussable promptly, and our overseas fans would especially appreciate news updates during the night.  How do you suggest BE (and others wanting to help the site) manage these two conflicting needs of completeness of news & ability to discuss up-to-the-minute news in the forum? eg Could BE be granted authority to promote News items to forum status?
