MORE than 200 Manly supporters packed into a function room at the Crowne Plaza on the Gold Coast on Saturday night and hung on every word that fell from Ken Arthurson's mouth. Time might have slowed the 79-year-old Arthurson, who ruled the Sea Eagles and then rugby league with an iron fist, but the respect for the man has not diminished.

"Mayer flew to the Gold Coast early ahead of yesterday's match against the Titans and went out and played a solo round of golf, something he's regularly done this year to clear his mind.......when he turned his phone back on, it exploded into action with calls from sponsors, media and even family members asking if the story was true."

Be interested to know if the timing of the announcement by Delmege was coincidental. Quite fortuitous that the story managed to grow some legs before Mayer could shut it down.
