"Playing the long game could set league free, but no one's interested"

Interesting article by that old Manly hater Masters in todays SMH online, not sure how to post it.

He says the clubs have a huge bargaining point right at this moment having not signed up, but are so short-sighted about next year's funding they probably can't see it.

He also points out how the long-awaited cash-cow of the next media deal may not turn out as rosy as everyone has been expecting.

Roy is right the clubs could all join together and start their own competition and keep all the tv money. Problem is the clubs don't trust each other. Look at the way the vultures have attacked Manly to rip it apart. They will do the same to whoever wins in 2012.

14 clubs trust each other. Brisaben and Melbourne are the ones who cannot be trusted as they have News Corp as owners.

I think the correct way of phrasing it is:
Gallop will ride in to save the day.

Should atleast get close to the afl deal this time but could potential get a better deal in years to come.

    How?
Bring in a WA team, second NZ team, second Brisbane team, Sunshine Coast team. A central coast team brings nothing to the table.
A WCC using Rustys model top 4 knockout similar to Uefa cup with the host nation of the 4/6 nations to have it.
A preseason comp where trials actually mean something
Extend the rep games - of course have the NSW and Qld game, but add these Auckland vs Counties, BRL vs Qld country (same day as city country), Samoa vs Tonga, Fiji vs png and put these other games on a a bye weekend.
    4 nations extended to 6.
Great britain tour year prior to world cup

It's all smoke and mirror's. Talk of huge TV deals takes the spotlight off the ad-lib job Gallop and his cronies are doing at the present time.
