Johns caught with ecstasy after club visit
Cautioned, released without charged
Had been working with Wallabies on tour

RUGBY league great Andrew Johns has been arrested for drug possession in London.

Johns, 33, was stopped by transport police officers at Kings Cross underground station on Sunday.

The former Newcastle, NSW and Australian captain was found to be in possession of one ecstasy tablet. He was cautioned and released without charge.

It is believed Johns had been to The Church, an all-day club at Kentish Town that is popular with expatriates.

British Transport Police carried out an operation on the London underground network targeting drug users travelling to the popular Notting Hill Carnival.

Johns was one of 206 people arrested for drugs possession in London over the British holiday weekend.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said in a statement late last night: "A man in his 30s was arrested and cautioned for possession of an ecstasy tablet following a routine police operation at Kings Cross underground station at 4.20pm on Sunday, 26th of August."

Johns, who was forced out of the game in April by a recurring neck injury, has been holidaying in Europe and the UK.

He and injured Brisbane Broncos skipper Darren Lockyer were guests at the Challenge Cup final between St Helens and Catalans at Wembley Stadium the day before his arrest.

He had been in London for a few weeks and had accepted an invitation by former Newcastle Knight Billy Peden player to pass on his tactical and kicking knowledge at the Harlequins Rugby League Club.

Johns has also been working with the Wallabies ahead of the World Cup.

Johns' manager John Fordham did not return calls early today.

Good to see the tip of the iceburg is finally exposed.

Quite a risky chemical for someone with bi-polar disorder to be playing around with.

No surprise however I dont really care.

At least he is no longer playing, however it could affect some of his endorsements etc!!!!

What is it with you and Bi Polar Matas???

thats the 3rd or 4th time you have made a crack about it.

Bipolar is a very serious disease

Exactly. And you'd think someone who suffers from it would be cautious about dropping Es, amongst a number of other recreational pursuits not conducive to management of the condition.

No **** Gronk?

Yes Matas you are correct, So why do you keep using it to stick the knife in to Johns every time his name comes up?

Who cares if he has it, it doesnt define him.

Why are you so worried about it?

It doesn't define him but it is instructive and kept a secret for some reason.

You're right Fro, the drug use defines Johns, not the bi-polar stuff. But Mata is correct on his warning of its use with persons who have the diagnosis. Coming out of the team that was drugged up when they defeated us in 1997, the Johns boys have led a singly protected life from then to now. Happy to see him exposed at last.

He reckons someone put it in to his trouser pocket and he forgot it was there.
His mum gave it to him.

Was he on his way to a press conference to annouce his availability for the Australian Rugby 7s side?
